So skirting boards need to be the same colour as the doors!?

Hi! I'm starting a new build soon and I'm wondering if white painted skirting boards would look odd with wooden doors or can it work?thanks :-)

It would not. Look at pictures of interiors. Skirting boards are the same color as trim, molding.

What did you decide to do paulinehenderson? I have a similar dilema - our walls are currently painted white (works well as it's a north-facing room), so I think white skirting might look too bare. Thinking about colour-matching to the Antique White, but not sure the contrast will be enough to work well - maybe a darker colour would be better?

i think the one on the left also, the other one is a little too chunky compared to the skirting. Just to add to the mix, you don't have to stick to the skirting they sell in wickes, b&q etc. We have an old house and we went for plain solid board - you can see one next to the dog on the right in the pic below. The plain boards would look great with your doors, you can also have just plain timber ( squared edged ) for the architraves. I think they look like an older design, today's fancier stuff wasn't around in the days that our house was built, 1850, so we thought why not.

Blue skirting boards- horrible or potentially cool?

The floor is a concern for us and something that's on our agenda. We are planning to change it to a lighter white/grey wood such these. In terms of the blue we used it is actually supposed to be this colour, which looks much darker than the blue in our hallway: I think it was because it needed more coats to achieve this final colour. Either way it's gone now, I think skirting boards should probably just stay white! Mayfly182 that's a great idea about painting an object the desired shade of blue to go on the table! Thanks for everyone's help.

You could do them the same colour as the walls, or if you want them paler Dulux Almond White, Cotton White or Timeless are all nice off whites.

It can work especially well, also with lighter colour doors (in fact have used this look in a new built maisonette flat in Fulham, not the photos below), go for it!

We have white skirting/architraves with oak Doors...doesn't look odd at all.
