How could I dress my window to stop a nosy neighbour looking in?
Comments (16)Hello Rosie, Okaaay..... THAT boy needs a hobby and it "ain't" you! Here's what you could do in a subtle way that doesn't necessarily say. "I know what you did this summer" How about a sudden love of a very big flower arrangement... Can be fabulous faux! That way, you can remain aloof and he can jolly well go and get a book and learn something. Better not be floristry.. :))...See MoreHouzz Live Chat - Tips for dressing your windows, September 4th, 3pm
Comments (81)Hiya Jill, thanks for sending those images over. In response to your first question about your bedroom, I can think of a couple of solutions that may work. The first is the same solution as my previous French window answer to @montbray and fit something that moves with the window, either a Pleated or a Venetian which operate under tension and open with a thumb tab rather than a cord. Alternatively, it would look quite nice if a blind, particularly a Roman blind was fitted right to the top of the wall above the window, at the ceiling. This will allow the blind to be ‘dressed’ to form a valance effect above the window when the blind is open, giving full view from, and use of the window and when it is closed, it will give the illusion of the window being taller. In the case of your bathroom blind, you might like to try a waterproof Roller blind made from PVC fabric. Alternatively, Faux wood blinds are a really great idea, as they have all the look of traditional Wooden blinds, but won't warp in wet or steamy conditions. Admittedly, it is a difficult window to dress and there are not a lot of options, but hopefully, these will give you some ideas. Sarah...See MoreHow would you dress these windows?
Comments (12)Hi there, I can see that you have beautiful yet challenging windows with the added issue of radiators underneath which I assume you’d prefer not to cover with lined curtains? Because of not having any recess to speak of roller blinds are not ideal. You might get away with voile pleated blinds since their cassette is more discreet. Romans fitted just under the coving on extension brackets would clear the architrave around the window but there would be considerable light bleed around the edges as a result. I’m wondering whether shutters might be the day / night solution you need? It would be quite tight on the right hand window as it’s so close to the wall, but it might be worth getting a shutter company in to explore this if that idea appealed....See MoreDress a window without curtains?
Comments (5)Can you confirm whether the room is a kitchen, lounge, bedroom...? This will have a bearing on what type of window dressing you choose. To add warmth, colour and texture to a room then fabric is always a lovely option, providing the room doesn’t get steamy or damp. As curtains aren’t an option for you, consider roman blinds. These can be set within your window recess which takes up no wall space at all and will still allow lots of light into the room as well as having blackout lining options, to keep the light out when needed. Another option worth considering are plantation shutters, as these again are recessed into the window, allowing plenty of light in as well as providing privacy. I hope that helps.
