Painting mid century furniture?

Hello, I’ve bought this lovely uniflex sideboard in the hope of bringing it back to life but undecided about whether to paint, or restore & refresh with original colour.
It’s genuine mid century (teak I think?!) & have seen similar painted navy or dark like the picture below. I’ve already unscrewed the wodden legs & thinking about restoring the legs or changing to hairpin legs.. any advice or ideas?

Comments (22)I think the interior of the rooms can be brightened/tweaked with lots of different approaches. Here a few examples: Photo one: bright, zen inspired furniture, lighter flooring(terazzo/carpet/wood). Organic colours.. Photo two: same thing, notice the bed fairly close the window. You could do that by having a pony wall/installation behind the bed as in photo three. Obviously not in wood, since your ceiling has enough of it present. Comments (17)Hi Nickyshore - the build started mid September and finished mid-November so it was a pretty quick process. That said there are still elements to finish; the glass for the mezzanine gets fitted in 2 weeks, the final wood flooring isn't down yet and so the skirting boards haven't gone in yet either - but it's a useable space which we're already starting to love. The upheaval was minimal and we lived in the house throughout the build. All of the construction was completed before they knocked through into the kitchen / main house - so really there was only a week when we were in a bit of a mess. Comments (8)Thanks Caroline. Really appreciate your recommendations. I am open to chairs though seem to have about 6 spare chairs in my house at all times ;) So was planning to use some of them. My house is a 60s flat roofed brick bungalow so doesn't need to be mid century but that does feel appropriate....See Moremid century upcycled chairs and varnish / stain colour
Comments (5)Yes 60s and 70s wooden furniture was often, but not exclusively teak. The chairs in the photo look lighter than teak to me. GPlan and other makers often used a veneer though. You could perhaps use a teak (colour) oil, stain or varnish if you like that darker colour....See Morerachelmidlands
