bifold or sliding doors?
Comments (1)Hi, we also have a young son and the reality is that both can cause problems with little fingers when they have been opened into the garden. So, I would recommend talking to a firm that can help design locking mechanism when fully open, or, insert a locking post into the ground that you raise once they are open to stop accidental closure. There are also many other considerations such as thermal efficiency, anti-glare, dual sided locking systems, invisible frames, etc. Depending on budget, you could look at http://www.vitrocsa.co.uk/ and http://www.finelinealuminium.com/ hope this helps, Mike...See MoreSliding door issues.
Comments (0)Hi there, I'm currently making a big sliding door out of reclaimed timber. The idea is to make it look like an old barn or warehouse door. The trouble is I'm really struggling to find some top quality, industrial looking, rustic sliding door gear. Has anyone got any ideas? Happy to go bespoke if anyone has got a good metalworker recommendation in the London area. Cheers!...See MoreSwing and slide door suppliers
Comments (35)Hello everyone...this is SO very helpful - and thanks Kathryn for all your advice! We're going through the exact same routine for slide & tilt doors - and needs some other windows too. Our shortlist is Sunseekers or IDsystems. We are edging towards IDS, as they can offer the doors AND all other glazing we need - whereas SS only offer the doors (and also saw a few dodgy reviews for them too). IDS are few grand pricier. However your experience makes me feel they may be worth the extra. May I ask you, Kathryn, how much more glazing did you have (re negotiating price down), and what size are your (beautiful!) doors - are they 950mm panels? How much more did you pay for the special colour? THANKS so much,!...See MoreRecommended suppliers for sliding doors and opening flat rooflight?
Comments (23)Hi Tani, I am sorry, I missed your message earlier. In this heat wave it has been very hot, particularly as we are south facing. The sliding roof lights above have been fantastic as you can let out all that hot rising air and it with all the doors open and roof lights, it feels just right! We have 4 roof lights that are 1m x 2m each. The sliding doors are 7.4m and 3.4m. The room is 10m by 6.5m. Minipie, ODC were good at first, but they lost interest in me and I ended up buying the same sliding doors a couple of weeks later from another company for a much cheaper price. I also got it colour matched at the RAL colour for the same price! It's worth shopping around....See MoreKaren
