Curtains or blinds

I have this light window in bedroom and I don't know how to cover it for nights shall I use curtains or it's too small ,blinds smarter but light can come through sides , please advice!
p.s there is normal size window in the room and I'm using curtains for it ..xx

Hi Nour,

Could you add some pictures? One of the same wall but further away to get an idea of the scale, and one (or more if possible) of your overall room / decor, including the other window that you're mentioning.

I think it'll help both in terms of the dimensions and style.

Reading your post though, as it is a bedroom and it seems you don't want any light going through when you close, my guess is black-out curtains might be the best for you.

A roman blind in the same fabric as the curtains outside the recess would look good, and if it extends past the edges of the recess you shouldn’t get too much light coming around the sides.

Totally agree with VLS Curtain Makers Ltd. Whether you choose curtains or blinds to dress a window they should be what you like and want, suit the property and your lifestyle. I have clients with pets who would rather have a blind so that the fabric doesn't get covered in dog hair, whereas other clients prefer to have curtains trailing across the floor simply because they like the look and it suits how they live and the style of the property as well as their other furnishings.

JC thank you again - it's actually your photos that we have saved on our wishlist so it really was a big help! New blinds sound absolutely brilliant so we're going to get in touch once the work starts and hopefully they can provide ours too. If you have any photos they would be most gratefully received, the mechanism you have to pull them all down sounds fab! I presume you've not had any problems and they're still going strong! At the risk of pushing my luck, do you have any idea of the cost of your lovely sliding doors, to have so much glass, compared to say bifold doors? We've decided we want large sliders to maximise the light, but I'm worried they will be loads more than bifolds which were in our original builder's quote, eek!! Thank you again, as you say this forum is unbelievably helpful and I'm eternally grateful to you all!!

Yes, lovely colour. Well done for standing your ground :) I like your bedside light in the photo. Why do you want to change it? I would be interested in suggestions you will receive for dressing of your bay window. We have a bay window in our bedroom with a very similar beam (boxed in RSJ?) in the way. We have wooden venetian blinds, which look good but we wouldn’t mind having curtains as well. Tricky with that beam.

Hello Hayley, What a lovely alcove! I second on the curtains. Dusty pink or coral would look lovely with that green. Velvet would be so lush. You could also consider using a faux suede. I agree with Mhedia. To me it's to tall a window for Roman blinds to fit without any lights coming through.

I’ve only managed to completely block any light by having black out blinds and curtains.

Our curtains are on a pole and therefore hang away from the wall so light comes out the top and around the sides as the don’t fit flush to the wall, using a track would help with this.

Hi Nour, you could have a blackout roller blinds for your window. You will get some light seeping through the sides. However you can also fit blackout roller blinds with cassette and side tracks which eliminates any light seepage. See photo. Alternatively you could fit one blackout roller blind outside the recess.
