Non-slip floors.
Comments (4)Hi, non-slip floors tend to be for commercial use, they come in the form of a sheet vinyl, there stuck down and heat / seam welded together - you have probably seen them in hospitals, dentist surgerys. (dont forget when there wet, there slippy) For something modern please take a look at the Quick-Step LIVYN LVT luxury design flooring Essential range (stick down) or the Balance Click or Ambitet Click ( click system -like a laminate locking system ) Also Polyflor COLONIA or CAMARO LVT all ranges have a wide colour spectrum and include a 'tile' and a 'plank'. Both are suitable for underfloor heating if you have it. If you need any further advise or guidance - please feel free to contact me. Good luck - Elaine...See Morestair paint - non slip?
Comments (9)Ours is just that, and the one that we have just finished for a client was around 150 Years old. It's a labour of love, getting the paint off, and obviously as the stairs are very old and likely to be uneven, and worn in patches, it might not be possible to remove every single bit of paint, however, as you say, why would you want to rip the character out of it, we embrace Shabby Chic round here and our two dogs help with that too.. So, for the last client, we scraped as much paint of as was possible with a flat blade, then sanded with heavy grit 40-60 paper to get most of what was left off. Then sanded with 120 grit to smooth. The stairs were then oiled in No Nonsense clear oil from Screwfix as they still had a beautiful patina. Two coats usually suffices and you are much less likely to slip on them. The risers required less work as they were being re-painted, so just a normal sand over and re-paint!...See MoreRender or Brick Slips on Edwardian property?

Comments (3)Shan Hi Nice visualisation. If we are talking about real brick slips that are cut from real bricks they need to be bonded to the wall and then the joints need to be pointed with mortar as one would do with real bricks. This can be quite a messy exercise and is essentially a semi wet trade Ideally one would apply the slips before you fit the kitchen, that way worktops and units can be templated against the finished surface. One should also consider taking the slips all the way down to the floor, if you want to future proof the design and if you have any open backed units. If one attempts to do it the other way around you would need to protect everything as mortar can be very unforgiving and gets every where. If you were going to apply a finish afterward or to an existing kitchen I would consider tiles as opposed to brick slips above the worktop. Also in terms of sequencing of the works the kitchen units and work tops are one of the last things to go in. So it makes a lot of sense to fit the slips before the units go in, whilst all the other messy work is going on.
