Comments (8)I would advise that you retain the original skirting boards in any of the original rooms that you have enough of the original skirting for but the new areas and the modern interventions should have a modern approach; I like to use a simple square profile timber skirting and paint it in a satin finish paint to match the colour of the walls. This way the skirting visually merges with the walls, making the room feel more spacious. Comments (4)Are you in a cottage, and is the floor the finished floor? If it's an old house then it's perfectly in order to have no skirting as it's actually difficult to get a good join between skirting and wall when walls are uneven. The difficulty comes if you want to carpet up to plaster, but with a hard floor it's fine. I like it as it is in the photo. Comments (6)You could attach taller skirting boards mayb which would cover the gap, but then you would need to do the whole room so maybe not. Or attach some pieces of plasterboard then skim the area smooth then attach the shorter skirting you already have. If budget allows this would be a pretty simple job for a plasterer and shouldn’t take long....See MoreIs skirting board heating any good?
