New build living room layout

Hello, we’re in the process of buying a new house and struggling to work out the best layout for the living room. It’s a nice size for me and my partner but we’re considering moving the radiator to give us more flexibility, and possibly the door position. We have a large two seater sofa and will be looking for more seating, maybe two armchairs with a bit of style contrast. 50 inch tv has to go somewhere, ideally mounted on a wall, and in the future we’d love a piano (it’ll have to be fairly compact!). Any thoughts and ideas would be massively appreciated, this is so much easier working it out for other people!!

Before you go to the trouble of moving the radiator, be sure to consider what a tall high output vertical radiator could do for you. If you opt for a space-saving middle connection radiator like the one in the image below, it will help to make the most of your available space and free up some room for the piano that you just HAVE to buy! We want a piano in the office but the CEO keeps on turning us down *sadface*

Ah our door was in the same place in our last house and it was also a similar sized room. We had a corner sofa against the back wall with the shorter end on the door wall (so larger side facing the window)
Then a 2 seared in the window facing into the room.

We had a log burner in the middle of the room opposite the door but if you don’t have that then you can always mount your tv in the centre of the wall on a swing bracket (so that it pulls around and angles towards the sofa) when you watch it.

Or you could put the piano in the window and have a larger sofa across the back wall (again opposite the window) with chairs either side.

We can't paint for a while but I really don't know what colour to go for, I wanted to keep the room light and airy the tv unit is going and TV will be on wall, rug needs replacing but think that needs to be tied in with wall colour.

If you are going to move the T.V to the wall, think about what to do with the wires etc which will hang down on show. I would change the display unit at the end of the room, centralise the armchair and the mirror, ( which is not quite right - it's in the middle of the wall, but doesn't look right over the armchair ). Get a different display cabinet to put the T.V on opposite the sofa, which will open up the entrance to the room, and give you somewhere to hide wiring. I love all the neutral tones that you have with the sofa, cushions, curtains etc. However, I think rather than changing wall colours, all you is to bring in an accent colour, changing a few of the cushions, ornaments and rug.

Hi - I agree with the others that draped curtains would look lovely. A soft grey carpet - especially one in a lustrous pile - would really bring the whole look together. Here's a couple of examples of our Soft Focus range (top pic) and our Sensation Twist range. Two different greys but shows how they can complement different sofas etc. The beauty of carpet is that it's cosy and welcoming and feels lovely underfoot especially when it's chilly!

I’d probably keep the layout the same. I’d pull the sofa away from the wall a little though and add an arc lamp behind (you may be able to go a bit longer on the Sofa but mark it all out on the floor with tape). I’d have the chair facing the sofa personally as it looks more sociable. The alcove looks tiny on the plan but bigger in the picture? Could you do wall to wall shelves for a tv or display?
