Was the space used originally part of an attic, or was it just closed off?

Hi. 700mm at the deepest point. There is further space beyond it which was closed off.

Having looked through this post, I have to say I love the way that this project has progressed so far. The dark purpleyblue used in your lights would be lovely for a splash of color perhaps paired with a softer pale blue. Some great pillows that would go in this way include a soft of aubergine and eggplant shade. (As demonstrated by the drape examples here). Good luck I look forward to seeing where your project takes you next as it looks a lovely peaceful room. :)

Lol AMW. There's about 15cm from top of window to ceiling & the walls are cement blocks (so no recess space). The tiled 'secret' drawer compartment looks pretty cool though. I've got a cabinet being made in oak which will have to be sufficient for my daughter. The only thing I haven't decided on yet is the punter colour material to go with my java marble tile. So any pictures or links of suitable countertop/bench tops to go with the tile & oak cabinet would be grand :)

That's not very promising ! I usually take about a week to get from empty room plan to finished design on a bespoke design - that's working remotely via email, with client kept in the loop with screen shots / sketches / then CAD finished and tweaked until the client is happy with it ! ( for about the same price as a good dishwasher ) That said - some clients will come back and ask for a quick change ( mostly of colours ) a short while after - then they shop around with one plan ( hence the name OnePlan) and compare like for like from several companies ! It gives a client bargaining power as the sense of competition is awoken in the shops they visit ! It's gives them the layout that THEY want and the only way to truly compare like for like ! Nb I also do a less involved 'design to suit the room ' more used for developers - but that takes about 3 days ! So costs less ! And lastly I do sketch consultation on an hourly rate ! That's usually same day service !!! So basically there are other ways of buying your kitchen - with out wasting 4 hours with a sales person in your home !! Look on my pro page for some reviews if you like !! I should make it clear - I don't sell anything other than design ! I design with cabinets ranging from ikea /howdens/ Mereway/ Nolte / Hacker /Neptune to totally bespoke joinery shops !!!

He has probably tried to replicate the stringer on the main stairs which is the right thing to do. In my opinion he should have stopped it lower though because it is higher than the skirting which is not great. This job looks kinda rushed in my opinion. How you react to this depends on what still needs to be done- Lots of commenters have reacted like this is the only job this guy has done for you but in reality he has likely done lots for you- what’s the other work like? If you make a fuss now about something that is not in a main room could you loose a chippy to finish more visible jobs that need doing now? Personally I would try to get all the work done now and then add this to a snagging list to be sorted at the end.
