As someone who taught Textile design on a degree course (before retirement) and prior to that worked in a famous national gallery, I have extremely eclectic taste. I have work painted by myself, work collected from other artists, limited edition prints, framed ephemera, and even two very large antique Victorian watercolors in gold frames - which I wouldn't probably buy these day, but do provide a bit of "weight" and gravitas in rooms. I like to put them against ultra modern lighting and pieces of furniture to give a bit of edge and conversely, put modern art against a couple of pieces of antique furniture we have.

We have some bonkers stuff around - cameraless photos of mushrooms by the very talented Susan Derges. Jason Martin's painting on aluminium. The spectators triptych - I've always refused to sleep in that guest bedroom because of the creepy feeling that they would be staring at me all night. Some scary Kabuki prints (they really scare me!! Hi, I think that you have to find a line that you can align your larger art pieces on. Not sure how to explain it, so I've made a visual for you. I've put the two smaller pieces together, so they form 'one piece' and aligned the bottom of all large pieces and put the other smaller one between them to form a connection. A common line makes it visually calmer. I've also pulled your chair a little bit forward, to give it some 'breathing space'.
