Will laminate wood always look cheap?
Comments (20)Hi everyone No decisions yet, its effectively like an insurance job so we are still waiting on a decision. I would love hardwood flooring but the supplier doesn't stock hardwood only laminate, carpet and vinyl. I'd like to put the same in both affected rooms (dining room currently carpeted and kitchen currently vinyl) and also in the den which is next to the kitchen so it seems like the laminate might be our best option. No karndean/Amtico type options either. In an ideal world we would have the hardwood but then we would have to make a contribution to the cost. Normally not a problem but I am leaving my job as a partner in a large law firm this week to set up on my own (very scary!) and so we are tightening the purse strings for a few months in case things don't work out!...See MoreNeed advice for carpet colour on my stairs please - 1930s traditional
Comments (43)hi all, update is I have finally found a photo of someones stairs done in Brintons timorous beastie yellow Ruskin butterfly and its made me decide we are definitely 100% going for this as I love it (see attached pics) on stairs and landing... Floor in hall will be oak herringbone parquet, just wall colour to decide and we have bought new tall skirting so colour to paint this also? i have attcahed apic of the hall currently so you can see our front door with stain glass.. As Ive mentioned before the banister and spindles will be replaces with square spindles with an oak top banister and oak end cap - similar to this houzz pic ... So just to deicide on wall colour and new skirting colour... I really like f&b light blue in a hall with oak parquet but I don't feel this will go with the carpet... Kitchen and dining room will be one of the sage shades and lounge Wimborne white and downpipe......See MoreCarpet colour?
Comments (1)The photo you've picked out is very elegant and neutral. How about a stair runner so you can still see wood either sides? Could even choose one that picks up on the stripes and colours in the roman blind if you're getting one like the in the pic. Roger Oates in the UK do lots of nice striped options....See MoreTo carpet or to laminate and can I also ask you about headboards?!
Comments (19)Thank you so much for all your comments, really kind of you. Read Interiors will take your advice and get a wall mounted headboard, will start calling upholsterers tomorrow to get prices. Daisy, yes I do have a vax from the last house and the newer models are much better than the previous ones in terms of drying times. Vicki thanks for the name of the stretch valance as I couldn't find them on Google apart from on House of Fraser but they have limited colours and were pretty pricey at £100 or so! Angm, funnily enough I had this conversation with the carpet man as when I lifted the 50 year old carpet I noticed there was paper down and he explained that was why. He said it was also a good idea to tape any joins in underlay as well as the carpet but said a lot of fitters don't do this. Forzaitalia and Sam appreciate the insights and very interesting given your experiences Corbridge Interior design interesting point re rug and sizing I am still torn!!!! But I am probably moving towards carpets. I think the pics make the floor look better than it is! Noise wouldn't be a problem as we are in a bungalow, which is why I am concerned about the kids walking into their rooms on carpet having forgotten to take their shoes off! If it was upstairs I would definitely go with carpet! Aargh decisions, decisions!...See More- 6 years ago
