What are these “bugs” and how do I get rid of them

My spider plant has been happily living its life giving me a lot of babies, and then this morning I found these, what are they? Where do they come from? How do I get rid of them? And are hey contagious?

Bit hard to make out from your photos, but could it be greenfly or whitefly?

Greenfly can apparently be sprayed with a mix of water and washing up liquid.

Worth a shot.

Aphids, I think. Same method as E D mentioned.

I've finally had it done, all, painted and downlights fitted! The difference is amazing, obviously it looks far better but also the additional lighting which I have now included with warm white bulbs makes a huge difference - all surfaces look brighter and larger and the whole house looks much more modern. £1630 very well spent. I had 4 rooms done in total. Pics before and after are not that exciting as it's hard to make a ceiling look interesting, but here they are anyway!

Hi Emmeline. I sympathise, I can't stand the things! They don't like the smell of marigolds so you could put some in pots or put small sharp rocks around the perimeter so they can't climb over (may look a bit odd though not knowing what your balcony looks like!).

Would I be mad to get rid of my dining table?

Well we’ve had a shift around this morning and completely swopped the dining table and sofa - Minnie101 thank you, my husband loved that idea. So the table and chairs are in the sitting room within the bay window, and the sofa is in the kitchen, overlooking the garden. Here’s some pics. It really works well and I know we will now be using that table more as we love to watch tv whilst eating! I’m not sure the traditional Parker Knoll sofa quite goes, but it’s sooo comfy so it will have to do. The cushions are temporary, as I may get some navy’ish ones instead, but if anyone has seen some nice cushions let me know! As always this Houzz community has been amazingly helpful, and it’s great to get different perspectives. Thank you all very much.

My bathroom has no windows - how do I get some light in there

Could you have a window with obscured glass or sandblasted glass? I would look into this first as lots of houses I have lived in have had the same issue with bathrooms looking directly onto neighbours properties, all have had frosted or sandblasted glass. My last house had a bathroom with no window and we didn't change it as we were there only briefly. It had pure white tiles which made it feel somewhat cold, I would avoid these. Something like a textured off white tile may be better (Porcelanosa have lots of choice). In terms of lighting, the quality of light is really important. LED's with a high CRI rating will give a much nicer light quality than cheap yellow or blue tinged ones. If you can't put in a window then perhaps hang mirrored units in the alcove and have the space packed out so that they fit flush with the walls either side. I would leave a space below them to utilise the shelf.
