Lacking more than something
We have decorated 2 rooms since moving into our new house.
I love the colours and the wallpapers but I am really stuck for accessories and wall art.
The rooms need that homely/statement.
I would be grateful for some advice please.

Comments (5)Hi Emmeline We all have our particular eco priority, with me it started with paint. If people only check the labels on the side of tins and choose low or minimal VOC content its a start (VOCs are present in many other items too such as carpets, dry-cleaned clothes, upholstered furniture and air fresheners). There are zero VOC paints available but only online. Without being gauche, something that was said recently at a seminar I attended hit the nail on the head for me. Sian Moxon, an architect, author and senior lecturer at the London Metropolitan University said she felt the subject of living with sustainability was rather like teenage sex, in that lots of people say they are doing it but very few actually are! Comments (10)Hi Debzip, We used flat metro tiles in three colours in our walls - green at the bottom, a black border, and then used white tiles up to the ceiling ... With white grout used throughout. Comments (19)ok, I ordered some wallpaper but when it arrived it was more midnight blue and gold rather than black and gold which i wanted - albeit very nice. It wasn't right for the bedroom that we have been discussing here so I used it or another bedroom. Wow!! it was amazing. I therefore ordered another wallpaper (at huge expense!) and can now reveal my handwork today.. If you remember my initial posting it was all about linking my two bed cushions with something as I loved them so much... Well, no I am not sure they really sit well with my wallpaper.. And, still can't decide whether I need to change headboard to something more dramatic and what colour/style bedcover I should have.... and lamps???? I have become a monster!!! Comments (36)We chose to put our sink in our island as it was the best place for it. Our island is very long so it can accommodate the sink on one end with a clear space on the other end for seating - I am personally very against having a hob in the island as it will send splatters of hot oil etc. across the island and people (kids) sitting there. I also think the current trend for open shelves is odd - I always think they just end up looking cluttered (beyond the perfected curated pages of houzz), and everything will get dusty and oily if near the hob. One thing that we did in our kitchen was include a defined tiled area around the island - I love it and everyone comments on it. It may help add that little bit of extra in your design. (please ignore 1) our bar stools - we still need to get 2 more! and 2) the hole on the left where our broken wine fridge is waiting to be replaced!)...See More

I was thinking maybe orange to compliment or red in the lounge. But have no idea on dressing the fire and as for wall art
The dining room wall papers is a mix of green/silver and cream. The reason the sofa is there is because the bifolds make it a lovely place to relax or entertain.

5 years agoThank you I like the idea of the 3 pics on the wall. The wall behind the other sofa is also blank. It is difficult to see but the plain walls are papered and it has a slight silver in it.
I tend to have a silver/chrome element in most of the rooms. I'm not too sure re: the coffee table as my SO likes the space.
I was thinking of personal pics in our hall on the wall up the stairs so keeping the photos to there.
The fireplace looks really bare but again I'm stuck

5 years agoI don't know if you like this art which picks up the existing colours including the wood? I can't photoshop btw hence slightly too large art, missing table legs etc! I personally would add a coffee table, this is deco inspired to go with the wallpaper. I agree, I'd move the rug away from the fire a little and just pull the sofas forward a few inches and also agree with a large plant in the bay (I'd probably go for a Kentia palm). I'm yet to find another her cushion/throw to go with it (the other cushion is for the chair) but in terms of pattern I would repeat the palm a little and I think geometric or Art Deco would work really well and hopefully the arm in the lamp tilts to lose the boxy effect!

5 years agolast modified: 5 years agoHi Maureen. Ive tried mocking this up for you but I can't find a straight image of the art! I like the throw. I'm not a colour expert but I like the pink cushion with it. There's also a purple brown colour in the throw, I can't find the right colour cushion so have just added this one in but I think picking up that colour would work well, probably in a pattern with a lighter background or maybe a slightly lighter shade but a solid colour. I like the hurricane lanterns but would move the other silver ornaments elsewhere or you'll just have a row of silver. I think the table is probably a little small and too tall? I like the art but not sure if it's a little too dark? What do you think?

Yes I agree with you about the table so may order your original only prob with a centre table is the sofas are recliners.
Have just ordered the faux Palm for the bay.
I have found a lighter wall art which has a glitter effect...
Is that a wooden floor lamp in the picture by the sofa?

5 years agoI like the style of the art, although I'm not a glitter fan personally. Just as another option as it seems to be the direction you're heading plus the art seems a little small but have you considered a Balinese/Thai wood carving? I've attached a link with different finishes and just an example pic but you can normally also get them on eBay.

5 years agoSofas now moved. Thinking the little glass table needs to go now to make space for my 4ft fern
and the nest of tables may need a small lamp as well as a floor lamp.

Would love to see the artwork you have chosen for the room.
I would personally go a coloured marble coffee table like this one below; it adds both colour and focus subtlety.
There are also side tables available to go wth this.

5 years agoHi Maureen. Given choices so far I'm assuming you want a bit of a boho feel?
The first pic are table lamps ( I couldn't get a close up photo in the silver so hopefully you can see them!). The first and second are wall art ideas again, they also do a couple of others. You mentioned you wanted a wooden floor lamp? This one seems to tie in with the taupe in the wallpaper. All of these are from Lombok on half price sale ATM. If you can't have a coffee table with the recliners then what about a floor cushion in the rug in front of the chair/ tv? I like the banana keaf Ikea one (4th pic) but hard to get an accurate colour of it. If not I think an Indian cushion will be great for some more pattern, this one is ebay but you might be able to find one picking up more of your colours.
