Exterior Color

I really like your exterior color? I have red brick house and wanted to white wash this fall but don't know which color to use. Could you please make me recommendation. I really appreciate your help.

Hi Chhewang. This is a difficult question to answer without seing the house, its setting and its neighbours so I can only reply in general terms.

The first thing to remember is that once you paint brickwork you are creating ongoing maintenance with regular repainting needed unless you use a mineral silicate paint such as those made by Keim, which have a longer life.

You should also check there are no local codes or restrictions on painting your house.

The colour of your windows and doors is also important. For example I would tend not to recommend painting the walls the same colour as the windows as you will lose any definition.

My advice is usually to get this sort of work done by a professional decorator, who may be able to help with colour choice. If you want to do it yourself then I suggest painting some large pieces of ply (at least 3' x 3' or 1m x 1m) in sample colours and leaning these against the house. It is usually very difficult to get a colour right just by looking at a colour card.

While bold colours can work in certain situations I would start by looking at pale neutrals and off-white colours.

Wow. It’s amazing. I never thought I would receive reply. It’s mean a lot. My house was built in 1996. We will hire painter to paint it but we don’t know what color to chose. My HOA is not too strict I will submit request once I know what color to use. Currently it’s pinkish color on siding we wanted to change something modern. I have attached my house pics. Thank you again.

Thank you!From Little Greene I'm currently trying the various shades of Slaked Lime and, French Grey, and Cool Arbour... I also liked Hardwick White, Off-White, etc etc (FnB)... :/ I just can't decide whether the painted stone, ie rough/wobbly texture looks ok darker, or not. Or whether to do frames a mid-greyish tone, with soft white walls...or. just paint the lot white! The frames on the stone wall sides make any shades look different again...

We are about to start on a renovation to the front of our 60’s house and I am struggling to visualise the colours. I have decided on Farrow and Ball School House White for the render with Residence 9 Clotted Cream windows. The front door will be oak with two sidelights.
