How can I make the room look modern and get some storage
Comments (8)It is not clear if you have bought the property or how long you intend to stay there however I agree with the mirrored wardrobes. iKEA do some very reasonable ones which can be reassembled elsewhere if need be.. It looks like there may already be roller blinds to match the curtains...? If money is tight (given that a decent bed could cost the best part of £1,000) you could just lose the draped pelmets. If you are renting you may need to replace them when you leave. I think the whole room should be painted a neutral very pale shade which tones with the curtains and above all you must lose that awful carpet. For budget sake I suggest a pale white grained or lime-washed laminate which can in fact be laid straight over carpet and this will aid sound insulation. You can get the 'click' variety which is a bit more expensive but it can be reused. Any spare money can be spent on bedside cabinets, a large picture above the bed (?), a small dressing table (?), a small chair (?), wonderful bedding, a throw and some cushions to bring the whole look together. i would leave the chandelier (unless you hate it) as they are quite popular at present and you will have the additional expense of an electrician if you change it. Good luck! :)...See MoreHow can we improve the look of our new shed / summer house / bbq area
Comments (21)If you feeling brave, dark stains such as black look stunning and help the building to visually recede against the backdrop of vegetation. It's the tradition finish for agriculture buildings and has a very contemporary look. I'd contrast it with a pale grey deck or beige gravel or stone if you want something warmer. The building needs grounding in its setting, ie. connect it with a path and some planting to prevent it looking like it's been dropped from space! It's going to be a great facility to have in the garden....See MoreHow can we make our garden outbuilding shed look more attractive?
Comments (7)Thanks for your help guys. This is a bit of an old photo so we’ve added some raised beds in the area in front of the outbuilding, we’re also going to add in a proper stone sett path next year. We‘re half way through converting part of the building into a chicken coop (we crazy) so we‘re in two minds about whether gravel will be suitable in front of the shed so we will see. I think I plan on recladding the shed with unpainted feather edge boards which will help. I’m also thinking of changing the door and windows to a light colour, perhaps white. Good point about the roofline, it’s rather close to the door so that might look silly. You've given me lots to think about, I’ll post an update soon....See MorePlease can someone advise on how I can make this wall less ugly??
Comments (7)It looks like you all get the idea. There are no limits, apart from our imagination, to the configurations. I have no idea why they are called jib doors. Does anyone know? I do know from experience though that they work a treat. Many years ago I was visiting Abbotsford the home of Sir Walter Scott. I was lost in reverie taking in the contents of a lovely room when the wall moved and a woman appeared. I quite literally jumped out of my skin! She turned out to be a grand daughter of Sir Walter Scott who very kindly explained the door mechanism. I think she took secret pleasure in startling visitors!...See Moretezz4
