We absolutely love this very light and modern kitchen. Seems like you've used on of our taps, could you please confirm this.

Hello Becki, So here is a shot of said board over the sink. It's not perfect as I didn't plan it to start with.... Ideally it would need a lip at the back so it doesn't dip. There are various ways of mounting the sink.. so depending on how you do this affects how you can situate a board over the top.. Front is fine as it slides and sits on the front of the sink.. I usually sit the board next to the hob as I put pans and things on it which is useful... With any other offcuts.. I made these into chopping boards.. cut to size rounded off the edges with sander. I stack them all 1 in front of each other.. Really useful way of using anything that might be going to waste... It doesn't have a sheen as it is not treated... I don't oil my chopping boards but wash and dry quickly.. Vegge oil could be wiped over with a cloth if you want to... : ))

As a German, I'd say "form follows function". What works well can also be made to look very good, and it's more that just "ok" to expose the functionality. That's why, say, HUF houses boldly show beams and joints both on the inside and outside, or why the classical Porsche shape is the sleeker, flatter, more aerodynamically optimised form of the VW beetle (same designer). Or where Bauhaus, both on the buildings and the furniture/finishes, comes from. WMF cutlery designs to mee look "straighter" than, say, those I can get from John Lewis. And there are more flatpack furniture stores in Germany than just IKEA. It's hard to pin it down to something else, really, cliche or no

Wall mounted or deck mounted taps?

If you are having wall mounted taps, then the wall has to be chased out to allow for the pipework, so, as you point out nothing will be on view or accessible. Thus regardless of whether or not you then tile, and you had a problem with the plumbing ( maybe not the tap itself ), you would have to dig everything back out. We had Grohe Wall mounted taps and have just changed them for Burlington as we are upgrading the bathroom. We never had a problem. It's a risk you take.
