Glitter paint on concrete floor - any advice on how to do this?

I have a tiny wc with a concrete floor. I thought it would be a good idea to paint this as I don't want to have a threshold at the doorway. I am changing the toilet so do not have to paint around it.

How can I successfully paint a concrete floor so it can take regular cleaning and not wear away around the loo base where it will be cleaned more vigorously? (It was built in the 30's and has always been bare concrete so there is some staining/discolouration, especially around the loo.)

The wallpaper will have bronze detail so a copper coloured glittery floor would look great. I've seen glitter paint in the diy stores but it seems like small flecks, I'd like the whole thing to glisten.

If glitter paint is not an option I'd like to paint a pattern instead so normal floor paints aren't really suitable for this (and there are limited colours). Does anyone have any knowledge on what process I should follow and what the best products are?

I'm no expert but the amount of cleaning you would do it is sure to affect the integrity of any non specialist paints. Have you considered researching Epoxy resin floors? I did a quick search and found this https://pin.it/6kknjnd5s6d2vr

Thanks Patrina. We looked into resin floors a bit for our kitchen but found we hadn't left enough depth - they require about 4mm. I need this to be as level as possible with the hallway brick floor. If I have to put a threshold bar in I might as well just use an offcut of 2mm sheet flooring.

I wondered about using some sort of durable floor varnish over a non floor paint or glitter chips though. Hopefully someone will have done similar and be able to advise.

Hello roryfiasco, Love the name and you definitely don't want a fiasco with the flooring.. : )) Perhaps add open cardboard boxes which might save the floor more.. Ideally builders should really provide their own dust sheets etc and enough not to damage.. Still snagging will take place before they go and if decorator on site, they should really give the floors a top coat.. .. thing with a flooring is it would probably best to have waited but you know that so it could be that the floor needed a few coats.. If not wait till they're gone and then give a top coat.. Leave for the allotted weeks and then .... I have white floor boards throughout.. They are scratched and stained but, it adds to the charm of it.. : ))

Hello Dee B, Whites can be wonderful and I rarely use Dulux but I do like their Jasmine white, it is warm and has a nice bright finish without being boring, slightly veering toward a creamy colour. Brilliant White I would not use ever whether the room has full sun or not. I think it leaves a cold starkness which white does not have to be about at all. My other favourites are of course The Little Greene Paint Company and they have a whole range of whites and shades thereof. Or neutrals. Whitening is also a lovely warm white, slaked lime which is slightly cooler and I tend to use shades in variations so it is not a complete paint in one colour alone scenario which I do find sensationally boring. Think of architectural features you want to pick out. You also want really chalky finishes which are deep and provide depth. LG provides that and their paints are wonderful. Personally I have and have used extensively the shades I mention in various sizes of rooms and in my living room which gets so much sun in summer and winter that I have to wear sunglasses. You can clearly see the differences between shades when you compare them throughout the day. The other thing of course is that you can be imaginative about your use of colour, so you permeate the palette throughout. Some testers on plain paper should help you decide what you like. Shades with some warm woods, ochre's, apricots or flooring such as blonde woods would compliment. Rugs and other natural woven materials, such as Coir, Jute or Sisal compliment and notice how the architectural details are picked out. The room is bright and very light but not all white. Then you can accent and punctuate with beautiful pieces to layer the room. AJ

I have no idea yet on the floor - it will either be a grey tone or a warming brown wood in LVT (wood effect though, not tiles) Thought I would wait until the kitchen is in so I can get samples to put it next to it as we have custom F&B Off Black units and I haven't seen them yet, LOL. (they are being delivered Saturday!) eek. Don't want it to all feel too cold. We are still trying to finish replacing the floor joists and flooring in the lounge area in the evenings so hence struggling for time to decorate. Just can't think at the moment - might have to put one of our huge dust sheets over the units next week if I haven't decided soon. Will take a week or so before the quartz worktop comes anyway so there will be time I guess. Just a few units in the way/...

Well they are better than mine to thank you 🙈 I agree, I was talking to Hubby and I think it’s the most sensible option and if we really don’t like it, we’ll look at the cladding but looking at the wall now, the pebbledash will remain until an extension so might as well embrace it 🤣 I don’t think I’ll remove the pebbles.. I’ll have to dash the paint on lightly or something. I’ll come back when I’m done with the finish 🤷‍♀️

What about car paint? Some amazing colours were used on cars called TVRs. If I recall correctly Spectraflair or metal flake were the names. Spray to get a good finish then a hardwearing clear varnish over it?
