Engineered wood in cloakroom

Hi, I'm planning on having 18mm herringbone engineered wood with laquer finish in my downstairs wc/ cloakroom as it's going in the hall and main living area. I know it's not technically advised in bathrooms due to humidity but my thinking is that a cloakroom (sink and toilet) won't get too moist. What do you think?

Your flooring plans sound nice.

Pre finished engineered wood however is not very tolerant of water spills, which are likely in a cloakroom.

Perhaps you can consider sanding and refinishing it after installing (just in the cloakroom). That way the seams/gaps will be sealed and much more water resistant.

I have it in my downstairs cloakroom and it’s fine. Been down for years and have had no problems whatsoever.

shari39 yes you're right. I've done this a couple of times now. Just attach it with a bead of clear silicon around the edge of the glass, ie. hold the glass in place, and then apply the bead around the edge.

A question we getting asked nigh on everyday, the short answer is personal preference matters the most. That said the most commonly seen way to lay engineered wood flooring is by aligning the flooring planks parallel to the longest wall. There can be some exceptions like sagging joists, but this is the preferred direction to lay wood floors because it aesthetically provides the best result generally speaking. But there are alternative/other options and as mentioned in other comments you can also use thresholds to breakup rooms. Take your time before making a final decision discuss with your fitter, interior designer or architect if your using those services. With every choice you will want to consider not only each individual room but also your entire floor plan so that your flooring looks cohesive as you move from room to room. Hi Fiona,

I would recommend against wood in the cloakroom, purely for hygiene and practical reasons.

There are so many beautiful tiles that looks and even feels just like wood.
