As you say, you can't have the suspended lighting with a roof lantern. You may just get one over the kitchen island, but you would have to have the type that's a central pole with three, four or five pendants hung from a horizontal bar, like this Also bear in mind ceiling height. Many people struggle with the hung pendants due to standard height ceilings ( 7'6" ), they're too low for a lot of lights. The beauty for me is in the lantern and that's what you'll love looking at. I think i'd go for the lantern, the pendant bar over the island and then intimate lighting by way of lamps on the Chest in the dining area....See MoreNew orangery.... lantern roof size.... heat, light, noise HELP
Comments (4)Good afternoon Andy, We do a frameless and traditional roof lantern We can make one lantern to give the wow factor at 1.5m - 3m, structurally bonded with no metal frame or a more conventional large lantern. These will come with noise reduction glass, solar reflective glass and a self-cleaning coating. Comments (5)I see what you mean. I disagree that it will look wrong, I think it's difficult to make it look right. It has to sit well with the rest of the house and that's the hard part. Your current window colour makes things the hardest. To put brown windows in the orangery just won't look nice. Any grey tone would look nice, but then the windows need to match everywhere really. A lovely tasteful shaped orangery in white always looks great, but again, all your windows and doors need to match. I'd extend the patio to, wrapping it around the Orangery and making that the feature point of the rear of the house. I know this is 'grand plans', but hopefully you'll see what i mean....See MoreChoosing a roof lantern size for this room.
Comments (0)We have had to change our design midway through the build due to an architect mistake. This means losing the pitched roof and 3 x Velux (1400x780) and going for a flat roof with a roof lantern. We are struggling to decide on the size of the lantern. I'm leaning towards a 2500 x 1500 design shown below. The builder suggested a much larger 3000 x 2000 design (second images). I'm worried that an over sized lantern combined with the 3.6m bifolds will make the room cold. But I also don't want the kitchen area to be too dark. Any thoughts?
