Living/play/dining room design help
I was thinking maybe we can buy a corner bench for the dining table. Change the wall colours (we definitely want this as they were painted light pink by previous owners, and we’re not pink people). Change the lamp shades. Add a rug around the sofa? Add a mirror above the piano? What else?
What colours and design would you go for?

Comments (16)Have you thought of rearranging the furniture so the tv isn't the focal point? Furniture against walls can make a room appear smaller. If the budget permits I would add a coffee table to bring furniture into the middle of the room. I would also add a mirror to the dining area to bounce light and maybe install a low hanging pendant light over the table. I would also choose a neutral coloured rug as using a single colour for an item becomes the focal point. Grey is a good modern neutral for walls. If you want to use paper on a smaller wall choose a small pattern that won't date unless you don't mind repapering to keep it up to date. There are some really fantastic papers around at the moment such as chinoiserie, bold contemporary and typography but it depends on your preferred style? Maybe use plain (not patterned as this may date or your taste will change) velvet or silk curtains to soften the room. Use different colours and textures for the accessories to avoid block colours as per comment above. Children can be very creative - have a little brainstorming session. I'd also include a lot a accessible storage. Comments (29)Hey Nisha! I love your Option 4 and what a fab design- looks amazing!!! I think Option 4 has lots of space and flow through the room without having to walk around furniture and is a great adult space with formal and informal dining with the addition of the breakfast bar. If little people do come along in the future and you need a play space when they're a little bit older, you can always whip out the breakfast bar and move the table up closer to the kitchen at that point- it's a lovely flexible design. I would go for a corner sofa and place that under the window and along the back wall. TV next to the fireplace. One comfy chair facing the back wall.
Storage flanking the radiator, with a dining bench and dining table in front of the radiator.
Piano on the right wall as you walk into the room.
I would also add a rug (didn't put one in) and some smaller tables or a coffee table.

I was thinking that you could keep the toys in the storage around the bench, and if you get a dining bench with storage under it, you can keep toys there too. The kids probably don't play with everything they have at the same time all the time?
You could do the same with a TV console next to the fireplace. Storage under it. Perhaps something like this? I think they've used Ikea units.
