Help!!! Off-white hex floor tiles clash with white wall tiles/plumbing
Comments (39)Jonathandb1972, I was thinking of going with a grout that is the same colour or lighter than the grey tile. The hex will be grouted in a medium grey. This has already been done in the loo (the hex) and looks great. Neither are grouted in the above picture. Do you think there will still be issues with where the grout lines are if they are the same or lighter than the tile? Also, where the hex tile in the shower meets the grey tile will mainly be covered by the shower's profile. However, the shower only goes up to about 2m, so there will still be a visible "meeting" of tiles above that. My builder is a little concerned about how this will look as he will have to cut small pieces of tile to fill up the edge, which may stain once they start grouting. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best......See MoreEncaustic tiles - grout looking grubby
Comments (5)Hi Rachel, We would advise against using bleach to clean the grout as it only stains the grout and doesn't get rid of the dirt. Bleach, as well baking soda and vinegar, will also break the grout down over time and damage it. A specialist grout cleaner will clean the dirt and help restore the whiteness, without the risk of damaging your grout or the tiles themselves. If it's really bad, removing the grout and re-doing it is the best option, and then be sure to use a grout protector afterwards to ensure it stays clean and bright white in the future. You could also re-do the grout with a darker colour grout, as this is much easier to keep looking fresh....See MoreBad Tiling help!
Comments (12)Firstly I would see if there are any tiles left over to see if they are indeed misshapen- if they are then you might make different decisions about where to attribute blame. I would point out that a small tile has to be really badly misshapen to make a difference to the look (its more noticeable on big tiles). It’s unfortunate that the strategy by trades often seems to get finished to get paid without considering the implication of a poor finish. Personally I would want him to take a pass at the areas that are the worst, especially around the window where I would want the tile trim to be mitered. I would then put a very light grout to help disguise any minor imperfections. Personally I think this will be a lot more bearable when grouted but you must tackle the worst bits first....See MoreBotched bathroom job
Comments (4)Hiya, Sorry to hear you're having problems! Fitting/Tiling is a really tough job and changing half way through can have so much of a knock on effect and with fitters being booked 6 months, they can't afford to change jobs in between. That being said, you are the end customer, you should have what you want. In a similar problem, I had a customer who came to me after they bought nickel brassware everywhere but ordered chrome trims by mistake. The fitter fitted them and then obviously they looked wrong. When she wanted them changed he said it wasn't possible as 'they don't do that trim in nickel' ... basically trying to pull wool over her eyes! The fitter ended up redoing it but it did cock up the next 2 months of jobs. Depending on what you paid (Fitters in Bristol, UK tend to be £6000-£8000 for a good 10-14 day job) depends on what finish you get. I know people that can do a bathroom fit for £1500 but I wouldn't be expected all the extra thoughts and planning to have gone into it. With the silicone - Usually white is used to match with the grout or most fitters would nowadays use a tile trim of some sort just to guarantee themselves. It should last atleast 15+ years. Hope this helps!! :)...See MoreMBH Carpentry and Joinery Ltd.
