Awkward layout of dining/living room
Comments (10)I understand your issues with the outlets for the chandelier and the tv. I suggest that when you look at furniture for the room you consider its scale. Do NOT buy furniture that is oversized or too large for the space. Look at apartment scaled furniture so that I doesn't overwhelm the room. A scaled down couch, a comfortable chair, an ottoman that can serve as a coffee table or extra seating. Neutrals. You can always add color with an area rug that will look nice on your floors and pillows, art, etc. things that you can change out as your taste changes. I am curious if you have any electrical outlets in the center of your floor? It might be possible to float your couch with its back facing the north wall and the dining area, and facing out towards the windows and view. And then you could put your tv between the windows on a media stand and not on the north wall. In any event, one of those arc lights might be nice for this space, too. I like the odd point in your living room! It adds character to the space! Embrace it!...See MoreHelp with living room furniture layout please
Comments (8)2 other options. Have 3 x 2 seater sofas. 2 matching ones opposite each other and a contrasting one opposite the fireplace. A slim console table with lamps, objets etc may look nice behind the sofa so you don't have a view of a back of a sofa from the dining room. Or have 2 x 2 seaters opposite each with 2 armchairs either side of the fireplace facing the dining room. Do you also need to consider where a tv would be positioned?...See MoreNeed help for my small living/dining room with awkward layout
Comments (10)Hi. It's hard to tell if this will work as I can't tell the door width but what if you were to build a ŵall to wall bookcase on the desk ŵall incorporating both the tv and radiator? Ignore the design of this one, was just showing a pic of one against a window, You may need to widen the pillar by the dining room entrance slightly. Perhaps ammonite by F&B for the ŵalls with a floor that picks up one of the tones in the table. I'd also paint the coving in the ammonite and a darker shade of grey for the bookcase. Have a 6ft sofa (allowing for side table and lamp) opposite the bookcase (not against the ŵall) with a chair angled in front of the bookcase and perhaps go for an upholstered stool on legs as per your inspiration pic. You could use Romans on the windows, maybe in a vertical stripe and then use geo patterns for the cushions. Re lights I'd add ŵall lights to the bookcase and a flush for the living room, preferably just 7 inches high. You can afford to hang something lower over the dining table. Are you keeping the tall cabinet? I think your current table will look lovely with some upholstered chairs...See Morehelp positioning furniture in awkward living room please
Comments (3)You should consider how you place every single item in the room, not just the large pieces. For example, placing the rug so that it runs across the floorboards, as opposed to along the length of them, will improve the flow of space. I think that a larger rug would actually work better too! A large rug really helps bring any room together....Here are my top tips for placing furniture in a room......See MoreElodie Jullien
