Design Dilemma Furniture Bedrooms

Help with bedroom layout for a teenager.

Hi
I am in the process of planning my teenage daughters bedroom... we would like fitted wardrobes with a desk along side on the wall ( see picture - wall where the bath tub is temporarily parked!)
where would the bed look good?? any design/style of wardrobes etc will be appreciated.

Personally I would consider bed where you plan to put wardrobes flanked with floor to ceiling wardrobe each side. The desk could be positioned to left of widows to gain maximum daylight. Otherwise you are facing a wall when at the desk.

Just a thought, what about putting the bed against the wall of the walk in wardrobe and you can still have your headboard, no need to change or move a radiator and the wife's side of the bed would be next to the wardrobe entrance. It's all a bit cramped by the looks of things and while you'll have your ensuite and your walkin wardrobe you'll still be walking into a box room. Another thought I had to to lose the bedside cabinets and increase the appearance of space would be in to have the bed side lights on the partition wall and the storage built into the stud wall with pull out shelves for those breakfast in bed moments and cups of tea. Change the door to open onto your landing as well!!! Good luck

Hi again Jane. Any external changes, including windows, may require planning permission. If the property is a block of flats or mansion block this may be more of a challenge. You may have permitted development rights, which can be another good option. Any change, however small, is likely to be subject to a license to alter especially if there's a management company or a remote freeholder. This includes windows in any shape or form. As unreasonable as it may appear, The licensee / freeholder can quite legitimately sell you the space and the roof structure and then request a full license to alter application. It's also not a given that the you be awarded the license. Sorry if this comes across all doom and gloom. There usually ways design challenges. understanding all the risks as well as the potential is important.

I agree with man about the house about the wardrobes. They look very heavy for the room and will give you more flexibility. You have plenty of walls to have wardrobes on. You have a long room so there are plenty of options. If you want me to sketch up your options please email me.

@Rozanne K, it's great your son doesn't bother, he trusts you. But ask him for the final word anyway. Colours influence our moods and feelings, it's a good read. For a 13, if you really love and want dark colour for his bedroom then we would recommend using the bold on/as a feature wall. Use a colour to influence his mood. Pick up the right wall though, so he sees the colour and that it has some light in. Paint other walls and ceiling in another complimentary colour, brighter than darker.
