Help!! Cannot get my head around a good living room floor layout!
Comments (4)If you put the tv on the wall behind the door, you're going to end up sitting with your back to the fireplace, which isn't very cosy. I would keep the tv in the present position, to the left of the fireplace, but if you budget allows, get a built in unit for it, with storage for dvds, etc. Find a small corner sofa that will fit nicely in the space, facing the tv and the fireplace. Consider rehanging the door in the opposite direction so that it doesn't swing towards the sofa. Then at the conservatory end, put a couple of nice armchairs - or a chair and a small two seater sofa - and add a built in bookcase on that side of the fireplace, and some floor lamps. This will be a cosy relaxing area. The tv will be visible from each seating area, but the fireplace will remain the focal point of the room....See MoreDesign dilemma
Comments (13)Hi Minnie 101 - This was taken yesterday, pre bookcase when I was experimenting with the various design permutations ;) I will update tomorrow (hubby is forcing me to get some sleep) with pics of the art work hung up. The wall colour is interesting as it looks so different all the time. It is dulux's Jurassic Stone. But looks green, olive, grey, mint, etc during different times of the day. I absolutely love the colour!...See MoreArea around new inset stove - I could do with some advice!
Comments (18)Hi, the only thing I would say is put the fire on and see how hot it gets. We have a gas inserted fire, a little bit like yours but it really belts out the heat. We had an oak mirror on the wall above it and it got so hot we were really concerned that it would burn! We didn't want a full mantel piece so we bought an oak "shelf" to absorb the heat, then put the mirror above that. Now I am not worried about the mirror. I still have to switch the fire off after a couple of hours as the wood "shelf" gets really hot, but I am not worried that anything of value will get damaged. If the shelf gets a bit black (it hasn't so far) I won't mind. I definitely would not put a TV over a fire for all the above reasons. Hope that helps a little....See MoreSavoyard Fireplace and lounge layout design
Comments (1)I vote for the central position; it seems there are furniture layout decisions either way, and it's such a super feature that it should be central -- my sense of symmetry also agrees!...See MoreMelissa R
