I'm was thinking about the imperial Radcliffe. Can you tell me the name of the tiles?

Do you mean the floor tiles? unfortunately these were existing tiles and I am unsure of where they are from.

Not sure what it's actually like inside, but I had an ugly fireplace to deal with in one of my houses in England, and since removing it wasn't in the budget at the time, I found a piece of artwork I liked that fit into the opening framed and stuck that in it, then put a plant on the hearth just in front and to one side of the artwork to give it a little bit of life/color/dimension. I do like the whiteboard idea, but you can also do colored chalkboard paint, if you want to add something other than black. Maybe pick out a color from the tiles and fit the new board a little better so it's nicely framed by the existing tile surround? (You do need to keep it a fairly dark color so the chalk shows, but it looks like there's a nice dark blue/green you could use based on the tiles? My laptop's color display is in 'night' mode so I can't tell exactly what shade the tiles are atm. They look sort of teal-ish to me. :) )

You could go wood effect or if you're feeling brave patchwork effect tiles will give you lots of colour options when you come to replace the tiles. Hello Marina, What about having something that has a bit of both... light and dark... Lino is a good way to go as it can be easily maintained and there is lino and lino! Attaching a few images to show you what I mean... Sinclair Till has an absolutely fantastic range... I have attached a few of some complimentary colours and something really bright which could also work... All depends on what you like... I think they have an absolutely amazing range... They do plain colours as well but these here offer a texture in the form of pattern and colours that would detract from any muddy prints.. big or small! ... Lino is also perhaps easier as it is not textured and may be nicer to play around for the kiddies : ))

I would just cut the bottom tiles, it's common to have your cuts on the bottom and your full tile at the top. You could also consider an up stand instead, less tiling and cutting. You could even consider acrylic cut to size in a colour of your choice and make a feature of it, it may look nicer than a half tile. Are you planning to cut the unit down on the right? I presume it's a slightly taller than average unit, which is why the work top ended up a little higher than you want. We're tall and hate our work tops 890mn , we're stuck with our kitchen now, but in future would have higher ones. Our Utility is much higher as we have American Machines, perfect. Everyones' different!
