pendant lights from the ceiling

I want to have some pendant lights installed like this coming straight from the ceiling. I get that the box bit must be the other side but I have no idea what is called or what to ask for. I’ve asked a lot of people but not getting anywhere - someone help this is driving me mad! haha

I like that look.

It seems what is left out is the ceiling rose, although in the second photo at least, there is some kind of round cover plate instead.

Is it the junction box as with a recessed downlight? I think it will depend if you have the space in the ceiling? I can't remember the regulations but you need x inches gap on top of the junction box (as I didn't have enough space to fit downlights in a basement ceiling). I'm not sure I'd be keen on filling around the holes created In the first ceiling pictured either!

Hi Louise, I just wanted to get in touch as some of our lights would work perfectly in this room. We are a lighting company based in Derbsyhire and design and produce glass pendants - all free blown by our local glass blower just down the road! We often produce chandeliers/pendants for stairwells and can work with you to produce a bespoke piece for this area. Thank you for your comments. We will be arranging the new business over the next couple of months. We will probably publish a simple website from where a brochure can be downloaded. Customers can choose which components they want in their Pendant, these can then be manufactured at the factory. Once made - a photo can be taken at the factory and sent to the customer for final approval before the item is sent to the customer. I'm afraid for custom made products, we won't be able to take them back unless faulty. From a cost perspective for custom Pendants, we are still working this out, but will be in the range of £100-£300+VAT depending on design, materials and finish. Shades will be in range of materials from Glass, Metal, Wood, Concerete, Plastic etc. If you are a designer and have a completely new shape and design that you want to have manufactured to sell in some volume (100+ pieces) - that is also possible. The factory does this for lighting designers in Europe. There will be an initial cost to design and re-tool to produce the design, but this will be your exclusive design. Obviously, your Pendants will be at wholesale rates. We will also provide LED lamps for the Pendants - standard LEDs lamps and also the atmospheric LED filament lamps. There is a lot to do to establish this business - but thanks for taking the time to comment and help us understand the market and any suggestions will be gratefully received.

How far is the original light fitting to the new? What is the style of the room? Could you hang the light from the original ceiling point and then use hooks to drape it to over the dining table. I have attached a photo showing similar. Works in the right setting but not for everyone.

Thank you so much for your comments - I did try to attach a photo and twice it showed as attached but fails to have loaded. Anyway I agree - I love 3 more than 2 - it feels the right number to me. Whilst 2 decent sized ones would be fine too, I think the breakfast bar might look bigger with 3, plus we are having 3 seats under so I think 3 is what I'll go with. I hadn't thought about the size of the shades, so thank you for the advice of sticking to 25cm or less.

Hi Jamie

The first image definitely looks fiddly to install and to finish the ceiling as it appears there isn't a plate on the ceiling . However the second image shows something easier with a plate ceiling plate for neatness. The Davide Groppi Miss 2 Led is a good example of this same installation. Another way might be the use of tiny plates or jack points like the Bocci 14.1 which has a 29mm ceiling plate . This is of course not viable for all pendants so you will need do a bit of research to find one that matches you taste and application.
