Design Dilemma Gardens

Design tool for paving ?

I'm looking for a paving design generator where I can input the sizes of the stone that I want to purchase. All the ones that I've come across so far are priority ones, so use the predetermined sizes of the stone for the company e.g. Bradstone.

Any suggestions please? TIA

So in absence of anything concrete, I did it in Photoshop - made one canvas, slightly larger than the size I needed for the patio to allow for cuts and marked the actual size with guides. Then created different canvases for each size stone in different colours and copied and pasted onto the the canvas of the area I needed. Duplicated those layers as and when I needed them to create the final pattern. Easy then to count how many I needed of each size.

Try pressure washing them first to see it you like them cleaned up. If you do want to change the look you can acid etch them or stain them- there are lots of how to videos online but basically you need to clean the slabs with a degreaser, apply your stain with a roller (or acid with a spray and 8-24 hours later a neutralizer), and then seal the finished product. There are options at the DIY store or online- personally I would be looking to buy a combined stain and sealer designed for concrete slabs.

Paving colour for driveway - To match or not to match?

These are my Japanese acers, I selected the shorter varieties since the drive isn't huge. The red one is approximately 10yo, the other two are 6-7 yo. They grow quite slow and stay compact,in my opinion. I tried to take the photos in front of our Cooper so you get the idea of the sizes. They are Garnet (2+ m) Bi Ho (2m) and Winter Flame (1.5m and it grew 50cm during the last three years). Acers can be shaped, I'll be removing some lower branches to add some structure. They are gorgeous in autumn and passers-by often stop to admire.
