window dressing over crittall style windows?

We have a 9m long wall with three dark framed Crittall style French doors to the garden, separated by white columns which I would like to screen at night when the lights are on indoors for privacy. I can’t seem to find any pictures of this having been done! Just a simple voile curtain would do. Would a track or pole be better? And would 1,2 or 3 curtain panels look best? TIA!

If you have wall lights on the pillars then you wouldn't be able to have one long pole, but I think that would look best and the most minimalist solution vs 3 separate poles. You can also get blinds fitted to the recesses of the door which can look really good as they're not noticeable when closed

I think a roller blind would work well sat inside the recess of each set of doors. When the doors are open you won't have any flapping curtains or obstructions. It would sit nicely when rolled up in the top light section above the doors again causing no obstruction.

We have new double-glazed Crittall french windows on 3 floors at a holiday home facing the beach. We have a long list of problems with them. They run with condensation on the frames in winter. The powder coating finish is unable to resist salt and sea air after less than 3 years and Critall are unable to suggest a maintenance regime for salt removal (but void the guarantee if you don't follow it). The hinges and handles are crude - not sealed or resistant - and have corroded/seized after a couple of years. I am sure they are ok in a sheltered setting and look fabulous but they have performed much worse than run-of-the-mill windows on our neighbours' houses. PM me if you're interested in some used ones. We're seriously thinking of taking them out.

I too thought shutters would block out too much light, but the look when fitted is so lovely, and with wider size slats, the more light they let in. The pics below have small slats but its the same style of bay with shutters. Also don't have the push rods on the front if you want a cleaner look. Having the slats split so top/bottom open separately like pic below is also good if you want privacy without shutting out light from the top. High gloss shutters also reflect light into the room and shutters seem to go with any look, period or contemporary.

It will have a dark blue black shaker kitchen with suspended chimney extractor on cables and wood effect floor. I’ve seen industrial style kitchens with both crittall and wider bifolds and they both look nice. I would go with bifolds for the cost now because we have a max budget to spent on the house to ever get our money back (it’s not that we can’t afford to do what we want as such but you don’t want to throw money away!) even though I love the Crittall BUT it’s the practical side that we can’t agree on now

Hi Lauren,

Because you have toplights above the doors, I think some recessed blinds would look great and would stash away when not in use without covering up too much of the window or hiding too much of the light.
