Help! Light & dark hallway & landing

Some more help please, this time for hallway, stairs & landing! We have a fairly light but small hallway, a light to dark stairway and a very light landing at one end to very dark at the other.
Some advice on carpet and paint colours would be really helpful and how we can make best use of the larger part of the landing.
We were thinking of getting a grey woven carpet for stairs & landing (our bedroom has a pale grey carpet and the kids rooms have a cream carpet) but not sure how to make best use of the light & dark areas.

Comments (18)After living with beige neutrals for about 10 years I revamped my stairs and hallway early this year with lavender walls and the brightest white gloss I could find. Mine is not the biggest space so I took out the pendant light and had recessed spot lights installed. Finished off with a silver grey carpet, although I confess this went completely against everything my friends told me....."dark carpet on stairs!". It looks fab, light and clean, although I am now a strictly no shoes upstairs freak. The floor downstairs is a parquet type flooring in a pale oak colour. I have dark oak in the kitchen and am pleased that I went with the paler oak for the hallway. I finished it off with a white blind at the top of the stairs where the only window is and the space which doubles up as an office. The first picture is taken at night with the spots on and it shines different in the daylight. Comments (15)Well what a coincident! Visited a friend yesterday who is having her hallway, stairs and landing painted on Monday and wanted my advice (!). She has chosen a Karndean style herringbone floor for her hall and a soft check stair carpet in a warm caramel colour. Staircase is oak and glass. Not much natural light in the hall. We looked through loads of paint charts but she didn’t want the expense of F&B or Little G. Then we both felt Dulux Caramel Latte or Caramel Blush would look good. She later bought some matchpots and loves both shades, so she’s having the Latte on one wall and the Blush on the rest. Comments (14)Hi Joanne, I'd possibly paint the stair wood work black to add a bit of difference. Completely agree with the above and would get yourself a runner, will definitely add personality to the space and there are so many out there at the moment! H&M, IKEA and Next do some great ones. Looks like you might be hanging a print on the far wall which is lovely. I'd add some succulents (faux or real) on the shelf next to the door. What's also cool at the mo is a stair gallery wall which could be a nice option. Alternatively a mirror on the right hand wall (as you face in) would be nice. 5 years agoThis carpet (2nd pic) may work with both carpets. I'd go for a runner for the stairs again, I think alternative flooring may do bespoke runners so you could add a colour border for the stairs. Alternatively a sisal Boucle or herringbone would suit the style of the house. I think you need to pick up a few samples. I agree a mirror by your bedroom door And swap to Roman blinds. You could add a chair on the landing as a reading spot or a chest of drawers with a lamp to store paperwork etc. Paint colours maybe look at farrow and ball clunch or slipper satin. It's hard to help with exact things as you don't have any ideabooks set up so no idea of styles or colours you like
