How bold do you go with wallpaper?

The most enticing benefit of wallpaper is the wide range of patterns and styles available. From classic fabrics to playful kids’ patterns to stylish modern designs, wallpaper offers a room texture and an appearance that paint simply cannot duplicate. For the shared spaces in your home we want to know... do you go with a bold or a simple print?

Well, I don’t like either of the choices you’ve put down as examples so I’m not voting but I think if you’re going to the trouble of putting wallpaper up, it needs to have a bit of an impact. I don’t think it needs to be ‘bold’, garish or in your face necessarily as it could have more subtle colours, pattern or texture but still make a statement.

The colour of the paper seems quite neutral. I'd be guided by the childrens' favourite colours. And I'd try to zone the room accordingly (even if only with bedding ) but in a way that the two zones also complement one another. How old are the children? I favour giving them control of their space ( and responsibilities towards it) from a reasonably early stage. Also it's the one room I'd try not to stamp my own personality on, for obvious reasons. Kids go through lots of hobbies and interests so I'd try not to reflect these in the decor, but to give them space to express these asthey change. For instance through cork board noticeboards, desks/craft tables and accessible storage and display shelving. The ballet mad kid today will be breeding stick insects tomorrow :-)

It depends on what kind of look you're after. I like both wallpapers, but the first one feels more suitable for a bedroom. If you want a cosy, dark bedroom, you could pick the background colour of the wallpaper for the rest of the walls. But if you want a fresh, light and bright bedroom, simple white or periwinkle perhaps.

I don’t really like wallpaper. It can date very quickly and is a pain if you want to change it. Much prefer painted walls with artwork, shelving etc to add interest. So the answer is neither!

Not a huge fan of wallpaper but usually go for something bold and colourful for the loo.

I like both bold and simple depending on the room it is going in! :) For example in my hall I have a dove grey print from Laura Ashley which is a nice calming print to welcome you into my house but in our lounge I chose a darker bold coloured print to give it that hotel feeling - it really depends on the furniture and other textures you're putting it with. All a matter of opinion and how prints make you feel at home in your home! :)

I don't like the options you've offered. They both look a bit naff tbh. I'm considering the one below in my tiny new shower room.
