Elevated house - How to improve facade of detached 70's house?
Comments (22)I rather like your facade. I would think twice about painting the brickwork, as this would be a maintenance headache, but cleaning it would brighten it up. Otherwise stucco and paint the front ( brickwork) only? i would clad your existing canopy in lead, but leep the existing shape. Is the tarmac yours? If you could change this to something lighter and softer, this would have a really big impact. Clad the stairs in slate or indian sandstone, get rid of the block screen and replace with glass, ( marine grade stainless steel fittings and door furniture) black iron railing for the steps....See MoreIdeas needed please to update the front of my 1970s house
Comments (11)Thank you Gina for the advice! I think it does have good lines - glad you think so too! I don't think our budget will extend to rendering the whole front of the house unfortunately. We will definitely be getting a new front door - and we are reluctant to paint the garage doors so will match the front door with them I think. I should have said the upstairs window will become a Juliet balcony. The cladding on the top dark area is the same as under the front window. We were thinking of replacing the cladding with more contemporary grey horizontal cladding but we're still left with the problem then of what to do with the brickwork ?!...See MoreWindow colour and cladding ideas needed!!
Comments (23)I have had lots of nice comments on my house. Thanks everyone. I would add that I love the 1970's houses the big windows and open concept groovy style. However, the technology to pull it off wasn't quite there when they were built. If you are updating a 1970's house think about how you can introduce more insulation. I did the following: - internally insulated external walls with 10cm of wool. - insulated between floors (keeps things warm and prevents sound) - installed triple glazing and insulated behind the cladding. My heating bills are now minimal...See MoreGrey windows on 70's Brick house (without render)?
Comments (28)We went for it - the photo is a little further up the feed before we had the drive done and painted the hanging tiles to match. We get lots of comments from passers by that they love it but i'd still love to get it rendered so they really pop rather that it be so dark....See MoreCelery. Visualization, Rendering images
