Please help with tips and ideas to create some character to my living room!?
Comments (10)HI -- I like the red wall but I think the whole room in that would be too much. So right now you need to cut down the contrast of the red wall . Paint a light cream tan on the other walls and also on the ceiling but leave the crown the same color. This will tone down the red and accent the crown molding. You could also use a blueish grey in the same way. Or you could also use a grey with a hint of lavender . Get some color sample cards or pots (benjamin moore paints). Get an idea of the color before you paint the whole area....See MoreNeed help with design ideas for my living/dining room
Comments (16)Have you thought of rearranging the furniture so the tv isn't the focal point? Furniture against walls can make a room appear smaller. If the budget permits I would add a coffee table to bring furniture into the middle of the room. I would also add a mirror to the dining area to bounce light and maybe install a low hanging pendant light over the table. I would also choose a neutral coloured rug as using a single colour for an item becomes the focal point. Grey is a good modern neutral for walls. If you want to use paper on a smaller wall choose a small pattern that won't date unless you don't mind repapering to keep it up to date. There are some really fantastic papers around at the moment such as chinoiserie, bold contemporary and typography but it depends on your preferred style? Maybe use plain (not patterned as this may date or your taste will change) velvet or silk curtains to soften the room. Use different colours and textures for the accessories to avoid block colours as per comment above. Pattern/interest can also be added in the form of wall art....See MoreNeed help for living room ideas
Comments (4)Hi Nilam, Congratulations on your new home! Your sofas look great- they’ll work really well against the warm tones in your floorboards. As you’ve got a lot of warm browns within the space, opting for a cool grey colour scheme could be too much of a contrast for your room. However, choosing a wallpaper that pairs cool greys with warmer tones can be a great way to tie the two pallets together. One of our favourites is this beautiful grey and yellow floral wallpaper by Black Edition. This offers the grey palette that you hoped for, and the yellow flowers will work beautifully with the wooden tones already in your lounge. http://goo.gl/BBHG4F For the remaining walls, we would suggest continuing the grey tones from the wallpaper with Dulux Mineral Haze 2. If you’ve got a busy household with little ones using the space, we would suggest using an Endurance+ Matt finish on the walls. This is 20x tougher than standard matt and fully wipeable and its special formula has been designed to stand up against heavy wear. To complete the look, carry the yellow from your wallpaper throughout the rest of your space through cushions and accessories. Alternatively, if flowers aren’t your thing, this geometric wallpaper by Osbourne and Little is also a great option for your space. Introducing flashes of warm golds against cool neutrals is a really easy way to tie the two palettes together. http://goo.gl/ssY0ts For the remaining walls, Dulux Grey Steel 3 would pick up on the cooler tones within your wallpaper. As before, we would suggest using an Endurance+ Matt finish for busy areas to keep your walls looking great for longer. Finally opt for sophisticated grey accessories and silver fittings to complete the look. For both palettes, we would recommend getting tester post of the suggested colours and samples of the wallpaper, to see how they will appear in your home and under different lighting. We hope you have fun decorating and we’d love to see your new room once you’ve completed it, so please send us some photos! Comments (10)In some ways it’s good to have such a large TV. Let’s face it you are sitting a very long way from it in your lovely big room! You are wondering how to make the door end of the room look used. I think we are talking trade offs with the design here, in terms of cost and layout. If you can spend a bit of money it might be worth investigating how to design a new fireplace that incorporates the TV. Sounds horrendous I know, but because you have a large tv it might work, though you’d have to be VERY careful about balance in the positioning and get specialist advice on insulating the tv from the heat from the fire. You also need to consider how much time you spend watching tv and if the upwards angle of view might give you a stiff neck from where you place the sofa...BUT... this would enable you to bring Carolina’s room layout back towards the door, making the room look more occupied, you could then also use celery girls idea to put a sort of separate more intimate seating area in the bay window - two statement chairs and a little table, maybe flanked by a pair of enormous table lamps in front of the curtains to fill the corners and highlight the curtains at night....See Moremissjuliemcgrath
