Help required with an awkward L shaped living room
We have been using as as a living room .. sofa tv etc but tv will be moving to front room so unsure what to do with this space now .
Please disregard furniture and chairs as I want to start from scratch.
The room has been painted and flooring laid but what now ...

5 years agoI think the space is lovely. do you know how you want to actually use it for people to give ideas? Personally I'd add a cocktail trolley in th main part and a desk where the sofa is. Is there room for a bookcase on the wall that the door opens onto If not? Are you sure you don't want to keep any furniture, even the chairs?! A change of cushions Could make them feel like new!

Comments (7)Hi Chrisinem269 glad someone else does not like the television to be a focal point in a room - so refreshing! In one of my projects my client wanted the tv to be a discrete presence too so I sourced a great cabinet where the screen would rise up out of the back. Another option, though quite expensive, is to have the screen disguised as a mirror. Comments (13)You have some really good advice from everyone. If you can remove the wallpaper I would paint in Colortrend Goya, it is a green/beige colour that would suit the sofas and compliment your floor. This colour will be warm for your north facing room. A large rug would really lift the room as suggested above. I would recommend the Adum rug from IKEA in 200cm x 300cm. Again as above you need to sort the lighting, I agree with the 5 arm pendants (the spots are very harsh when you are relaxing watching tv). The light should not hang more than 50cm from the ceiling, try the Barcelona 5 light from NEXT, the shades will keep the bulbs from annoying you when relaxing. I would also stretch your curtain pole if it is extendable or replace it so your curtains (which are lovely) sit back further on the wall to let more light in. I would also replace your tv stand and table with a nicer piece and put it centred on the wall (you can angle the tv when people are sitting on both sofas). I suggest Besta Hanvicken White, the white is nice and light in the space and it measures 180cm in width. Add a chair to the corner where the tv is currently to hide the radiator and make the room more beautiful. Try IKEA Strandmon in green or dark grey. Some new cushions will really bring it together, try Voyage Maison from Harvey Normans. For the mirror above the sofa as a great suggestion above try the rectangular Songe mirror from IKEA. Comments (6)Congrats! the room is pretty long... is it long enough to make the entrance area a little more 'entrance-y' with a little bench seat in the corner for getting shoes on, a table for keys etc and then some plants. then you could put a two seater with it's back to the door to seperate the zone and another couch as the tenants have done under the stairs? Comments (16)Consider an electric fire and fireplace as an alternative to bio-ethanol. My daughter has a bio-ethanol fire in her rented flat. The fuel isn't cheap to buy and you have to order it and store it. It does give off sufficient heat. However, I have chosen electric. You can have the flame effect on with or without heat. You can put it against any wall and take it with you when you leave. 5 years agoHi. I don't know what you think of something like this keeping your chairs? The trolley would go in the alcove so pull the chair towards the door and swing round (also pull the other chair from the right). The lamp (which also comes in brass but couldn't get an image) would go on the right of the chair. Personally I'd go for an antique desk. Maybe modern abstract art picking up one of the colours? If you like this I can look for some accessories and a side/drinks table which I've just realised I've forgotten!

5 years agoI’ve taken a few more . Should have drawn a sketch of the layout . Won’t be keeping the sofa .. it’s just been shoved in the area by window for now until we get sorted.
