Help with new porch door/window options

We have decided to get new Upvc windows and a matching front porch door for our 1970s terrace. Trying to keep the budget down we'd rather just replace the front sliding glass aluminium doors to the porch and keep the side windows of the porch as they are if at all possible. So that from the front view, the house front windows and front door match. The sliding door does seem to be the most practical option for entering the porch however we are open to other ideas. I have seen a couple of Upvc options that I think would work. Attached is our porch, and a couple of links for examples I have found online of Upvc sliding doors.

Hi Robyn, thanks, I have thought about that but I thought modern aluminium came in different colours to the original style, though I see you have metallic silver options, would they match?

Hm... it's a tricky one - I can't see that fancy windows or replacing the cladding would make it much better. I think the problem with the looks is more down to the shape of the dormers and the house in general + it's proportions rather than the materials used on the outside. The porch won't help in the looks department either. I think you're doing what you can - keeping it clean and tidy - and the grass looks very well maintained. I would just try to accept the outside and concentrate my efforts on making the interiors extra pretty.

Hello, if you don't want sight lines then I wouldn't have Crittall to be honest (unless you wanted Crittall without the cross bars of course?? as they are super busy and won't give you a clear view of the garden) We opted to go for bi-folds with slimmer sight lines and wider panes so there would be less lines. On your size opening, it would take 3 bi-fold panes which means the central one is just glass. If you had sliding doors then you would likely have 2 panels with the bar being right in the middle (unless you can slide them into pocket doors!) Bi-folds - they even do frame-less bi-folds now or ones with the lines super narrow so I would get prices for those. It also depends on your garden - as you say, because we had the bi-folds leading directly onto a patio area. If you have to step down then the garden will feel quite separate anyway and so you don't benefit from having an open 'room' as you would with a semi flush or flush threshold and bi-folds doors. In that case, Alu french doors with side panels that don't have all the cross bars would likely be the cheapest option for you.

I’m not the colour expert here :) but I do feel your porch’s panelling doesn’t need emphasising with different colours. I think it it will look lovely in one colour (so no ‘two-tone’). What colour? Over to our experts... :-)

The best way to get a colour match would be to use the same RAL colour. However, if you don't know what RAL colour your existing windows are, we can send you out a colour sample of our light silver metallic and dark silver metallic shades and you can see if they match.

I have a similar porch design and went for a normal door to save cash, but opening outwards. Has made a huge difference to the usability of the room (and amusing when people try to open the door!)
