Need help to deco my kitchen's high ceiling section
Comments (2)Just a suggestion.. but I have a similar spot in my kitchen and installed a Pulley maid. It has a practical use, as in the winter we use it for drying clothes and sheets. In the summer months, it looks much prettier as we hang all of our herbs from it, to dry them too. Heres a pic to give you an idea......See MoreHelp! Are my wall lights too high??
Comments (4)Yes, sorry, they are far too high. It will look much better if they are brought down to be reading lights either side of the headboard. Bedside lamps and keeping them where they are will look weird. Did you specify the height to the electrician? If so, he may move them for you for no extra cost. Do you need any other electrical work doing? If so, he might be amenable to negotiating if you didn't specify the height. Even though you've just painted, and it will be a pain and frustrating to move them, it will be worth it on the end. That's my opinion anyway. Especially if this is to be your sanctuary....See MoreHow to cut build costs - quote too close to budget!
Comments (6)You say you have had a quote from a builder you quite like, but he is expensive. Being expensive does not guarantee a better job, as neither does being cheaper mean a worse job. Before employing any builder, or tradesman, ask for jobs that they have completed recently, and talk to their clients. Do research. Do not employ someone just because you like them - you need to trust their capability with spending YOUR money, and they need to understand exactly what you envisage. Although it sounds as if he is already working for you. As Tani Harvey-Smith says - ask him which particular part of the job is making this expensive, but expensive compared to what? Have you had other quotes? Even simple things such as a kitchen finish can accelerate the price by 50% - so ask. He will be working for you - please remember that!!...See MoreRoast my extension before it's too late!
Comments (9)But separately your argument to not have a garden facing room because there is only the two of you then create another tiny room there makes no sense. Neither does spending money on a secret bookcase door for a room you would likely never use. In my opinion why not have an working from home office that is either in one of the bedrooms as currently you are unlikely to use three guest rooms. Or if you particularly want the office downstairs have it in a bigger and better space - ie in the room facing the garden rather than the drive. I have a pretty big house and found that unless the two of you spread out into the space (by having fewer rooms but bigger rooms) you end up having lots of rooms that you almost never go in....See MoreTani H-S
