Should I paint my pine bookcases?
I have two pine bookcases that I think look a bit dull. I’ve recently painted the walls, with advice from Houzzers, and it’s made the bookcases look a bit heavy. Would they look better painted? If so, what colour? The sitting room is painted in F&B Cromarty with white woodwork. Sofas are a biscuit colour and the floor is a rustic oak with a red Persian rug. Here’s a couple of pics. I found Houzzers such a help when choosing my wall colour so I hope you will help me again. By the way I don’t like Annie Sloan paints after painting a wardrobe with it - never again. Thank you.

I really like the colours in this picture as I think that the slightly 'greyer' off white cupboards would tie in well with your beautiful grey tiles. Comments (36)Paint it white. Start with watered down chalk paint, and build it up until you're happy with the depth of white. If you're really uncertain, leave it a day or two between coats so you can keep an eye on it when it's dry. It's only a small area, so it won't take long to paint, or scrub it off if you went too far! I'd also put a wooden shelf/mantleshelf along the top, in an aged oak or pine, which would look lovely with the blue walls (judging by the tester marks in your photo!), or black/grey to coordinate with any furniture pieces. Comments (20)Hi Bridgette, It would look great painted in Elephant's Breath as suggested earlier. One thing to consider may be covering the inside of the top glass panels with a frosted window film. The translucent panels would glow beautifully with the lights. We replaced the hinges and knobs on an old pine kitchen with polished chrome and painted the cabinets. 5 years agoThank you all for your suggestions. Has given me food for thought. I think I prefer paler shades (I’m scared of the dark side!) to lighten and freshen it up, although honeypot I love your mock up! I saw this pic below on Pinterest and wondered would it be a good combo? Outside is F&B Lime White and inside is Pigeon. Or is it a bit fussy?

It's hard to say without seeing the rest of the room and whether you need lighter or darker tones but I might try pigeon. I also love setting plaster with Cromarty but not sure if it would work against the sofa or anything else you have. Excuse the crude photoshop btw, just giving an idea of colour!
