Can I go dark? paint choice help needed!

Hi everyone, I have a north facing house paint choice dilemma. After testing around 30 grey paint colours I'm considering embracing the darkness and painting my lounge/ living room dark blue. Only concern is that my kitchen which leads onto the dining room will be grey and white. Will this look silly? I've included some pics to which hopefully explains what I mean, thanks for your help in advance!

5 years agolast modified: 5 years agoi don't think it would look silly. Dark Blue is a good choice for a north facing room. instead of trying make it white which can end up looking grey, it's a good idea to embrace darker colours. if you add the living room with white and grey accent accessories and bring some dark blue accents into the kitchen (curtains, blinds, baskets, dinnerware, pottery) and bathroom (wallpaper, rug, tiles picture etc), the whole space will have a same feeling. just create a connection. you need to look at the space as whole.

I actually had a re-think and was thinking maybe I should leave out the rug. Comments (32)Great to see all the votes for dark here. Sooooo bored with all the endless white/neutral rooms you see. We’ve just spent a year living in the all white house we moved into, and are finally getting round to decorating. So many people looked at our paint samples and were clearly horrified but we love our new rooms! So much more warmth and character. Just trust your instincts - I find rooms will tell you their character over time. We still have pale colour upstairs - loft conversion, needed to be airy - but love curling up in our cosy living room (Valspar April Rain, budget doesn’t run to F&B!), and our spare room (Dulux Starlit Night 2) feels like a boutique hotel, if boutique hotels came with cats sleeping where they’ve been told not to!...See MoreDark Blue kitchens trend to a end? should I go for something else?
Comments (27)I think it's important to compare when trends begin to when there is a surpless of items to sell in showrooms. The grey trend began to end around 5 years ago (anyone who is on social media would have seen this) but the large quantitiy of grey tiles, kitchens, carpets etc etc are still sitting in warehouses today and therefore need ot be sold. Grey will never go out of fashion, but grey everything will. Ultimately, it's down to rejecting fashion. Lots of companies such as paint companies try to push their green credentials, but they then push the whole concept of 'Colour of the Year' etc and constantly talk about trends. Maria Killam on instagram and Tiktok has done some very blunt and truthful posts about trends to avoid, and how to opt for timeless interiors in order to avoid wasting money. The other side of the arguemtns is that making a house really trendy, can in some instances add a huge amount of value if you're lucky enough to sell at the right time.
