Should I replace these old doors with new ones?
Hello! I’m in the middle of a house refurb at the moment and I’m trying to decide whether to replace all the doors in the whole house with new ones or keep the existing old ones? I’ve just have a loft conversion done and in the middle of an extension - I’m missing 2 doors in the house ( 1 on 1st floor and 1 on ground floor) so will have to buy 2 more doors before Building Control signs off when the project is complete. If I keep the original doors, I’ll have to source them from somewhere otherwise I was thinking I could keep original doors on ground floor but have new doors on 1st floor?
The problem with the old ones are that quite a few have handles missing so will have to source them too, the doors that do have handles are a round brass style.
Does anyone know which period these doors are from? I’m in an Edwardian terrace but not sure if these are original Edwardian or not?
Please excuse the drawing on door and masking tape around the doors, the builders put that there.

Comments (18)Hi, there’s no great need for backs and base on the wardrobe. My parents don’t have them it gives more space. Dividers you’ll get at a timber merchant. But if you prefer a proper base B&Q will cut wood to size or it could be better putting some cheap wood flooring in if easier to cut or a fresh piece of carpet. Otherwise I’d wash down the walls and a good hoover and you’re good to go. https://kitchenandbedroomdoors.co.uk does wardrobe doors. For a modern look I would recommend non-gloss/Matt white, pale grey or pale-caramel colours, plain or shaker style design doors, and either door types with no handles required(it won’t date), black handles or brass handles. Depends of course on your preference. I would advise getting someone to hang the doors otherwise you’ll be fixated on any slight imperfections! Comments (61)Sorry I haven't read the comments (too many) but if you are considering keeping them, I'd send them off and get them dipped. If they come back in one piece then go from there. It may be they come back with a lot of damage, some panels may need to come out - but you can always update with fluted glass panels etc. If they come back and were full of filler etc and bad condition then sand, fill, sand again and paint a dark shade. You can make them look beautiful if you want to. It may be they come back in good condition! In which case you can stain and keep natural. Currently the kitchen zone has tile floors and the dining/living zone have 16mm engineered wood floors. The entire room has underfloor heating but it is split into two zones. I've decided to update the kitchen and have the same floors throughout the room. The current floors are 15+ years old so the wood has a few scratches and some dark damaged bits. I don't know if it would be better to refinish the existing wooden floor zone and then just add a colour matched new wooden floor in the kitchen zone or to replace the whole lot. 5 years agoYeah I think you should. They really look out dated in my opinion. The house will look more of a modern family home with better doors.
If you get doors like this then I think your house will look aesthetically pleasing and also very modern and I think it will go well with the Black, grey and white looks with colour splashes.

Can you even imagine modern doors in this house. If you can find the right doors in the right condition, not as hard as it sounds, then they will look great.
