I know this CAN be a fabulous room ... I just lost my way a little
Comments (660)So funny! I'm planning to paint the bannister at the new house (TNH) black and am veering towards painting the treads and risers black too... I've been searching for images of black staircases on Houzz and putting them in my entrance hall ideabook. They are few and far between. In your case, I think, with your white walls, maybe the stairs white and the bannister black? (Assuming the white walls continue up the stair walls enabling the b/w contrast.) You've already put black firmly into the equation, adding some more may give more reason for the black rad cab. In my case, there is a very off-centre radiator that could so very easily have been directly opposite the front door in TNH which is rather annoying as it stuffs up the focal point. We are leaving here with every radiator covered with a cabinet - and going to TNH that has loads of radiators ...but no cabinets! Yes, the work ahead is daunting - especially since the area of Ireland we're going to is very basic and not full of DIY resources, etc. I keep thinking I'll paint TNH white - to make things simpler(!) But try as I may colour keeps wandering through my mind! Lovely to be in touch again!...See MoreBreathe life into my new kitchen/family room
Comments (10)Wow! Thanks to all of you for your comments. I think the room in Susanna's picture is beautiful but I think I want a slightly less romantic feel if you can see what I mean? I think I'm trying to get a modern, clean lines look that will major on natural palette BUT that is softened by some texture and I think a pop of colour rather than lots of colour. The Dining Chairs are black leather with brushed steel legs - no wood. I like the greeny blue colour backsplash in mrsmcee74's picture but might want something a little more punchy if I went with that palette. Love the John Lewis Dandelions - had them in the bedroom for a couple of years but that room is next in my list! This is really making me think about what I want for the kitchen / family room. Very helpful indeed!!...See MoreLiving room, nearly there! Stuck on rug and/or coffee table.
Comments (72)I think your table is too small, it just doesn't fit right. If you sit on the sofa with a cuppa can you comfortably put down the hot cup on the table without having to struggle? I would rearrange the room slightly. Have the sofas opposite each other. The one along the window wall stays where it is and the other one faces it, with coffee table in the middle. The TV/unit then goes to the wall opposite the fireplace. I think that would then make the fireplace the main feature of the room. At the moment the coffee table stands out as the feature, which it shouldnt. Try it? You never know! Lovely colours by the way, I just like thinking of rearranging to improve what you have!...See MoreFurniture layout open plan kitchen
Comments (133)I might get overruled on that one! (Although my husband is obviously wanting to watch it for different reasons!). I'm pleased that you're happy with it! That's great that they're washable, so handy, and that the dog likes it!! No Xmas took over... I need to look at it urgently as damp has now appeared in one room, I feel like I've cursed it :( we went to Bruges last week and I admired numerous houses, as you do (!), and I'm now thinking of slightly less traditional colours.... I just can't make my mind up, i wish whoever hadn't rendered it in the first place as it would be so much easier!...See Moretamp75
