to wallpaper the chimney breast or keep it plain?
Comments (20)so with the bed against the chimney breast you think its better to wallpaper the whole way round? i tried the picture on the wallpaper and it just gets lost and doesnt pop at all. i think the plain chimney breast gives a nice backdrop for pictures and makes the room look wider and brighter. with it plain it also gives option to paint chimney breast down the line. really appreciate your advice. i guess im now thinking i'll leave it plain with another layer of lining paper for now and worst case scenario if i dont like it in a month or two i can order more paper and paper over it. maybe its just one of those thibgs that takes time to get used to it. thanks...See MoreLiving Room Wallpaper!? Comments (22)Which period are you trying to emulate? The damask isn't to my personal taste although that's neither here nor there but I do think the scale may be a bit large and heavy for the room. Have you considered trellis/quatrefoil/geometric/chinoiserie etc style papers? They are period papers but popular Atm. Or just consider something with texture, mie grasscloth effect. You could keep the walls fairly light or neutral in colour and add colour for accessories, art etc. Or if you're going for a velvet Chesterfield consider teal, burnt orange, green, blue etc. You could also add more classical/period accessories ie urn or acorn style lamps, horses head etc (I have one I love from oka which was only £26!). I would choose the paint after the paper and the paper after the sofa!...See MorePlease I need your help! My front room looks dull, and the wall paper
Comments (4)Hi. The room appears quite dark atm so I'd go for a warm neutral on the walls, perhaps try farrow and ball or little Greene. For the wallpaper Maybe a subtle pattern in a metallic to bounce some light or a grasscloth effect paper to add texture. I'd lighten the sofas up with throws and cushions in different textures and patterns. Do you prefer a neutral scheme or colour? Have you considered recovering your seat pads on the chairs to lighten them up and maybe add pattern? It's easy with a staple gun! A vase of faux flowers on the table would look great (I love the hydrangea from Oka!) unless of course you can afford real each week and a plant elsewhere. Agree re pendant light over dining table and lamps to cosy the space. Perhaps a bigger rug for the living area to zone the seating space and one for the reading area. Is it also possible to shorten the curtain pole on the main window? For accessories do look at chrome, glass etc as they will bounce light...See Morehelp wallpaper / livingroom ideas
Comments (4)I think if you're going to pull of dark walls, then they should be used as a back drop with lighter or coloured furniture. I think the wallpaper is going to clash with the curtains if i'm honest. I'm not against dark, and if you fancy a dark wall, then use paint not paper, it's a smallish room and can't take the busyness. Go for a mid grey plain wall on which to put the t.v against. Then add in your lighter coloured textures. I'd change the curtains for plain too, if it were me. Plus, i'd find some nice blinds for the other windows. What's the sofa like? The red, black and grey look always reminds me of the the cheap duvet covers that were around in the 80's, which is why for me, I think it dates a room. If going dark, go plain and tasteful with some muted colour and texture thrown in :- And here is what not to do:- Dare I say it? Yes, as my dad would have said, it looks like a tart's boudoir. Hideous....See MoreCarolina
