Which Front Door Colour With Brown Window Frames?

We live in a 1970s pebble dash semi which currently has a brown door and window frames. The front door is quite flimsy and not the least secure so we'd like to replace it. However, we are currently not in a position to replace the windows as well but in the long term I would like to move away from the brown frames.

So my question is, in the meantime if we were to only change the front door, what colour would look good for the style of building and the brown window frames in the short term whilst also looking good with say white frames in the future??

Hi Lizzie, we often fit doors and windows into properties that have different colours for their different product frames.

thanks all for your input. Update:- - Moved most of the excess pots now except the ivy ones (but put those in smaller dark grey tubs instead so more discreet). - Getting a price for a new window to match the rest - Have been busy jet-washing the back garden & decking down as we are going to look at removing the big old slabs on the corner decking and putting some large slate black stepping stones around to break up all the "cat litter" ;) ha ha. Then paint the decking grey (just started a thread asking for colour advice on these). So the garage.... HELP turns out there is a paint for the uPVC if I can't replace that large monstrosity that is the fascia board, but I need advice on colours please? Really wish I had had a grey door put in now instead of black but that means the garage will have to be a combo of black & white or all black or leave all white. I don't think I can add grey can I if I have white windows and a black door???? what do you all think??

Hi Nelly Try to get the picture to load, we have seen grey timber with Tudor houses which has looked quite smart but it depends on the house and you need to consider the other details, if you have mock beams will you paint these too or could you render over them? do you want to keep the Tudor theme or not?

We had a very similar question the other day so may be worth trying to find it? It may help. I sourced a 1930's front door online. It is narrower than normal as I just couldn't find one locally. There are hundreds of doors online. Hardwood is the priciest. Mine was £189 but it is oak veneer over a pine core. As my door is in a porch it doesn't really get wet so I could get away with it. It was fitted by a local chippie and then I painted in F & B Cooks Blue. It does look good. I would research the right style door for the era of your house and keep to that style. My sister recently had a composite door fitted to her terraced house. It's black with chrome furniture and it is lovely. She paid about £600.

I think soft green always looks nice with red/brown brick. I’m a bit concerned that your windows do not allow escape in case of a fire as the only opening parts are tiny. This pic below is Little Greene’s Celestial Blue, which looks more green to me! However it may be bit too cottagey?

You could optionally paint the brown windows to match a new door colour in something neutral perhaps or go white with a bold door colour?
