Comments (14)The reference picture that I posted has groupings that fit together and relate to the overall whole. Pictures are low and fit together with the furniture around it. I think another one of the dilemmas in this room is the items are dispersed around the room in a way that they don't relate or complement another. They stand alone which makes it to crowded and not enough because they don't work as a whole which is the vibe it's sending. Possible options -Take down pictures between windows and on window sills -Group pictures together with furniture -I like the couches, but the trunk doesn't seem to be working Here are some other references to design and tv fireplace ideas Good luck! I agree with what Jill is saying in this thread. http://houzz.com/photos/186292 http://houzz.com/photos/102753...See MoreInspiration desperately needed!! Need serious outside the box thinking

Comments (229)Also, top tip, folks! If installing an island with plumbing/electrics in it, make sure you have an access panel somewhere to get to them - especially for the plumbing. I speak from bitter experience in the last house. This is a particular problem with Belfast sinks mounted, you guessed it, under a stone worktop, meaning you can't easily take the sink out. I had this in my old house - learned my lesson the hard way, A bad situation when your dishwasher or waste disposal unit are leaking or need replacing, and you find out that there are a load of connections you need to get to that are hidden behind the sink. Even worse if that Belfast sink has an Insinkerator waste disposal plumbed into it and the dishwasher is plumbed into that - the bits you need to get to are directly behind the unit, and not easily reachable from the space in the cabinet under that sink, even if you cut out the back panel. Very awkward. So that stone worktop has to come off (not realistic) or you have to cut through a cabinet back or two with a jigsaw (better option by far - but you do it very carefully). Which is what I did - replacing the hacked up back panel with an access panel held in place by magnets, for the next time. Trust me, it's easier to do this at installation stage! This island is 90cm wide, and one side is the seating area, which is behind the row of front cabinets, which include sink, fridge, dishwasher etc. The whole kickpanel in the seating area will be mounted on a stud frame which has six metal threads installed, so that the panel (plywood, as we determined above) bolts to these six screws. Need access to the plumbing and drain? Drop the panel in minutes, and everything is in front of you and easily accessed......See MoreAlcove TV Unit, TV is 0.5cm too big! What about ceiling speakers?
Comments (15)Hi Tony. I think having the tv at an angle and building the cupboard out a little is probably the best option if you didn’t want to downsize the tv. Regarding speakers, ceiling speakers are a good idea if you’re in the construction phase, they usually come in pairs (left and right) and four would be more than adequate for a large room. You would need the ceiling speaker hoods as well for fire and sound protection. Also the necessary wiring would need to be hidden and all speaker wires go to an AV receiver which then connects to tv ( I think...not really an expert on this). Have a look at Richer sounds website, they should have lots of info: https://www.richersounds.com/hi-fi/in-wall-ceiling-speakers.html @ Jonathan, I can feel my hubby’s horrified look if he heard you say that TVs alone have adequate speakers ;-) (he is a perfectionist when it comes to tech stuff mind). We prefer freestanding speakers so we can upgrade as and when. And finally is the fireplace already existing? If not (at the risk of offending other Houzzers:)) maybe consider tv set into chimney breast above a low ribbon style fire, perhaps bio ethanol fuel as these wouldn’t need a flue. Tv above fire is usually a big no no as the tv is too high up and would cause neck strain but the modern styles could work well. Some photos for inspiration (click to enlarge)...See MoreJonathan
