Hi. If you can sew I would make your own curtains, rather than cream I would go for white and silver grey. The other option is to buy some cheap ready made curtains and either add borders in a luxury fabric or add something like a Pom pom trim etc. I would probably stop buying bits until you've sat down and looked at schemes you like. Once you've done that then make up a mood board so you can see how it all ties together. It just means you won't waste money on buying stuff you don't like. I would also look at trying to create a focal point as you don't have a fire, this could be art or a mirror over a cabinet for example. Or hang your tv above a console and add art around it.The biggest change for me atm would be to add cushions to lighten the sofa up though. I would also keep an eye on ebay, antique shops, country house auctions etc for maybe a replacement desk and a coffee table. Adding a lamp will add cosiness. I saw this fab light at george of asda the other day for £20. No idea what it looks like in the flesh but looks nice online!

Excellent. Thanks for the visual. Always helps as builders are only at the foundation stage at the moment! 28m3 of concrete pumped on the site last week as our house built on higher ground so extension has to match ground level and we're adding a first level extension too. A long way to go but take each day at a time. No more projects for you then?!

Hi Martha, I live in a similar age cottage - 1909 - and am in the process of replacing all the windows and doors with timber Georgian frames. They are replacing pvc windows with pvc crisscross internal strips that are supposed to mimick Georgian bars but just looked too artificial in a house this old. I’ve attached a couple of pics of the timber windows. It is expensive to use timber but in my opinion worth it. You can also get pvc Georgian bars that are on the outside of windows, instead of the pvc strips that are inserted in the window pane, so they would look more like the ones in the pics.

They sure look nice but know nothing about them! The one thing to bear in mind is that the companies working with these kinds of small/minimalist frames and huge areas of glazing will have quite specific structural requirements for installation and they'll almost certainly use their own team. So there is an additional piece of coordination work there: in our experience, they sent us a set of diagrams indicating what kind of base, edge, and lintel was required for them to install, our builders formed that, then they came to take measurements before going away to make the sliding doors and door. So it took a bit longer because they couldn't start making the frames until they had exact measurements. I feel like the wait was well worth it. Photos attached (apologies for the garden which is a total disaster and our next project thanks to the builders, not that they could have done their work out front as we live in London). There's the sliding doors and on the left is a glass door with a fixed adjacent panel since otherwise the door would have been 1500mm wide! This was not Maxlight's smallest frame but we were ok with that as the glazing is expensive enough already.
