how do you clean these outdoor rugs?

I like the idea but wonder what they would be like after the winter! Do they have to come in during the winter ?

These rugs can be easily wiped with a cloth. But the rug should be brought in over the winter.

A particular favourite of mine is drift wood and pebbles from the beach, I often arrange them as table decorations and the pebbles make great paper weights! As we are now in the winter season I like to bring in holly and mistletoe, dried branches as well. A lot of which I find on walks or from local suppliers, I love making table decorations and wreaths for Christmas.

there are several DIY products out there specifically design to clean grout. Most are chlorine based and can be found in most tile shops or online. Oxygen peroxide is another common solution. You need to be careful as both methods can discolour your tiles (depending on tiles type and quality) and you should concentrate on the grout only, using an old toothbrush. However, always remember that cement based grout in porous and will inevitably get dirty again. Another DIY solution is to use grout pens, available online. Those pens are relatively inexpensive and simply colour over your grout. There are no permanent solutions to dirty grout I am afraid and regular maintenance is required. The only way to reduce grout staining is to use epoxy or urethane grout in the first place. Epoxy and urethane grouts are waterproof but a bit more difficult to install as DIY job but offer better performance than cement grout.

I use ecover multiaction spray once a week on mine and it’s fine, have been using it for about 2 years. The rest of the week I just use Ecloth dishcloths with water only. If it gets stained which is rare (wet teabags and curry can be problematic) I spray dettol surface cleaner on the stain leave for a few minutes then rub away. I’ve had white quartz worktops for 12 years now and not had any issue with damage/staining. They are pretty robust, I’m not careful with mine at all!

Hi Luke, I was just kidding! I don't think "rusty" would make for a nice flavouring. In reality though, the only bit that actually needs cleaning is the grill i.e. the part that comes into contact with the food and the best way to clean that is leave in a container of warm water with lots of washing up liquid. The longer you leave it the easier the muck will come off. Not worth buying a new one as this one will work perfectly fine and because you've not done it before you could use this one to practice on. If you enjoy it and can see yourself doing it often, you can upgrade to a bigger and better one later on. In terms of germs and bacteria, they all get killed off once you start the fire and it gets hot enough.
