Bedside lamps wanted but what size and style?!

We have just completed our guest bedroom and would like some bedside lamps but they need to be the right size and style so they link with the wall candle holders. Also needing some inspiration on curtains, i have in mind some thick material which curves back with a lot of material on the floor if that makes sense!! Any suggestions please!

Hi CE, well done - it sounds like your guest bedroom is really coming together.

If you could post some images that show the room itself, as well as the candle holders, it would be really helpful.

Hi Annalie, what an amazing spare bedroom! I love the dark polished wood flooring and original fireplace. As for the bedside tables, (I'm aware this may seem a little safe!) but I would recommend keeping them the same colour wood as the bed or the flooring. I would also suggest keeping them a simple minimalistic design so as not to look too mismatched with the other strong features in the bedroom (fireplace, ceiling light). Hello decor178 Oh I thought they were oils on canvas. Yes I would have looked for similar but not identical. Still you could hang them differently, for instance horizontal - vertical- blue top - black top so they would appear to compliment if hung differently as opposed to the same. Given they are in separate rooms. That would be my suggestion or if you don't like that idea then something different. Or add to them with more. :))

Hi. I thińk you have a choice of what material, black, grey, wood, off white, metallic, mirror etc. a dark wood or black should give a luxurious feel but I think it needs lifting slightly with glass and metallics. Either mirrors behinds the bedstands or lamps with a sparkly glass base (you could add art behind in a metallic frame).The paper has a green undertone (on my screen!) and would go for the same colour in a lighter shade for curtains either in silk or perhaps faux silk if the room gets a lot of light. A modern or traditional chandelier tends to give a luxury feel and I also quite like the feather pendant lights that are around which are great for texture! I think the bed requires a few layers for a luxury look. Perhaps add greige (similar to carpet and paper pattern) to layer the colours and then you could add deep mauve cushions as seen in the pic. Perhaps add some good quality faux hydrangea in mauve on a surface somewhere.

I think it's looking good. Maybe see what you think after you've added lamps and cushions. If it was mine I might consider changing the handles on the chest to similar to pictured which I think will work nicely against the bedside tables. I might also look at a dipped vase for the chest to reference the colour blocking of the dressing table and I'd add tall faux stems. The vase is also Cox and Cox and they do a grey dipped one too which would look good

Room looks great.

re curtains, do you mean a fabric like velvet? Not an expert but a nice cotton can probably also create nice 'folds' on the floor.

Re bed lamps, something quite simple perhaps so they don't compete with the chandelier and candles, which all look lovely, btw.

I would suggest bedside lighting with shades rather than a style without. We have Laura Ashley capri lights which are beautiful but I've found they are too harsh to be used as bedside lights because you can see the bright bulb. Something with a shade would be much softer and more appropriate.

Regarding the curtains, I would think ones that drape and pool on the floor, may not be very practical in reality, because when they're closed, the radiator will be totally covered and all the heat will be trapped on the window side.

Unless of course they're purely decorative and you also have a blind.

Ah yes Ribena, 'drape and pool'. That's the terms we were looking for. :)

And I like the curtains with blind suggestion.

bizarrely I found this photo last night (last one) so have used again but I think a candlestick style lamp would work. Just wondering if it would work better if the sconces were moved and the table pushed away from the bed a little as shown? Something round hung over the bed might work. I think I'd go for linen curtains to combine the rustic with the chandelier. I'd also use a botanical print Roman blind, I'm failing to find one with some colour on a natural linen ATM though! Just wondering if you'd thought of adding a chair? This Ikea one would work dressed and they have another couple I think would work with the room

E D: on the curtain fabric I was thinking of something like velvet or similar but as you say cotton may fold better...I am going to a fabric shop tomorrow so will have a good look at what they've got.

Sarah: thanks for your suggestion, really like your choice!! But yes something with a shade may be better for our room...

Ribena: drape and pool is exactly what I was thinking off thanks!!! And it had passed through my mind to have some cream wooden slated blinds also so just have the curtains for dress.

Minnie: liking your suggestions...still very keen on curtains tho. As we Have space it would probably work better as you say to move the bedsides away from the bed a little. Will do some experimenting!! Also love the chair idea!! Hadn't thought of that but definitely nice to have a chair in a guest room :-)

Hi CE, apologies for the slow reply.

Love the blue you chose for the wall, it really makes the candle holders pop. Lighting-wise, I agree with Gina - you probably need something that won’t detract from your statement chandelier, candle holders and curtains.

A couple of ideas that spring to mind are something like this Kimu Design Screenlight 2.0 table lamp. It’s understated and creates a beautiful soft diffuse light. Also available in a round circular shape which could possibly work better with your room.

Or you might want something even simpler like this Anour Copenhagen Model T LED Desk Lamp - resembling a picture frame light, it would give off a nice glow without overpowering the room.

Hope these provide you with some inspiration.

Would love to see the photos when you finish the room!
