Small open plan living/ kitchen help
Comments (4)Hi Mewlz, I agree with OnePlan, defining the zones is the key. If the kitchen has not be done yet I would consider too a hidden kitchen or a more 'living room' kitchen design. I have to say that IKEA is great for give you a flavour of a multifunction compact living, just browsing the images of the dressed open spaces will give you plenty of inspiration. I attached a couple of option thinking to play with what's on your plan at the moment. If you do have an empty space (no kitchen or fittings) then we can really get more creative though. The table for 6 seem a bit large for the size of the property. Keep all in proportion with the space when choosing furniture. However if you do need a large table you may want to consider a foldable one. There are also coffee table with fab engineering behind then can transform in a table ... http://resourcefurniture.com/product/cristallo/ Colours and furniture style, lighting and accessories will really play a big role into bring the all space together and defining the different zones. Comments (3)It's really hard to have an opinion on a screen............uinfortunately, colours just look different to people as the colours on their screens differ from one another.......does that make sense. I can tell you however, having used Dusted Moss 2 & 3 on many occasions, that it is a lot more green than it looks on your chart above, which looks grey. It has grey tones, but as the name suggests it is a green. Dulux is for sure, lovely paint,. The colour charts however, aren't so accurate and the paint mixing compared to the colour cards is also not that accurate. I always suggest to people to go get colour cards and testers and paint at least an A4 piece of paper with 2 or 3 coats. Move the paper around as the paint changes with the light in differing positions. Probably not what you want to hear, but you can't choose paint from a computer screen and hope for any accuracy at all. I now prefer Valspar ( B&Q ), used to be Crown. The colour matching is phenomenal. The accuracy to the cards is spot on, and the paint is good. I used to be a Dulux everything fan................but since discovering Valspar I have been converted....See MoreSuggestions for open plan living dining kitchen for family of 6
Comments (23)Indeed! Lots of changes! I have 3 kids and having a front, separated lounge is essential: always tidy-ish and quiet-er! By putting a wall between lounge and kitchen, you could then use it to put floor to ceiling units in kitchen side( oven, fridge...) Then, get rid of units on left and have the space for the island of your dreams ! You could put a banquette on the right of the new extension , that might give you room for some seating. If it were my house, I would also make the entrance hall more spacious by getting rid of the first cupboard. ( maybe make the other one a little longer?) And as you only have 1 meter between the stairs and front door, I would open the front door the other way, so people walk in a spacious area, not a cramped space! I personally like a home with elbow room, rather than always have to squeeze by, going around furniture, bottled neck corridors, cramped hall where you cannot properly greet guests without brushing against each other... ‘Empty’ space can make a house feel luxurious... What ever you decide, your project is going to be life changing! Keep us posted!...See MoreSmall bungalow layout - ideas please?
Comments (12)Thanks Darren, this is interesting. Like you we are after that extra storage space for bikes! We are leaning towards layouts with the living at the back and sleeping at the front (which also seems to be a bit of a theme in bungalow layout discussions that I could find). We would need to get quite a bit of landscaping done to bring the sunroom out to the perimeter of the store room. Do you think an iteration of your idea could work with the existing footprint?...See MoreEmma
