Mixed kitchen worktops in small(ish) kitchen
Hi,
i am in the process of designing my new kitchen and would like some advice. We have a traditional 3bed semi, with a separate pantry/laundry room which houses the fride/freezer and washing machine. We are on a tight budget and only focused on the main kitchen area. I have attached a plan/picture of how we think would suit the space and allow us to have a hob/dishwasher/integrated microwave/single oven.
Our design preference is traditional country, in a neutral creamy/mushroom colour. We have funky Moroccan style floor tiles (installed when we first moved in to brighten up the kitchen) which we would like to keep (picture attached). Our kitchen shape in J with no island.
We are undecided between granite/quartz/wood kitchen countertop and thought perhaps we could have either brownish or white-ish granite/quartz around the sink and hob area, and dark wood on the 3rd side (to keep costs reasonable). Most of the pictures on houzz/Pinterest etc of mixed worktops seem to feature an island or breakfast bar, so wanted to gather your thoughts;
1. Help with colour matching of granite on creamy/traditional granite/quartz worktop
2. if have 2 different types of worktops would look too busy/meshed

Kitchen - black or white worktop, light or dark walls?
Comments (7)I have black granite work tops and a huge amount of them and an island - my reason for choosing is that I believe granite is a lot stronger in the dark colours where as marble is stronger in the light colours - I am (hope husband doesn't see this!) a little bit bored of the black work tops - they are classic but a bit dead - next time, if there is ever a next time, I would not play so safe and would go for light work tops with a bit more interest. I would steer clear of work tops unless you are prepared to really look after them and treat them regularly! As for walls - I would go light - and ensure it is a paint that you can wash splattering off! Not a basic emulsion! That way, by going light you can change colour of kitchen accessories at any time to freshen it up and update it. If I was planning a new kitchen now, I would probably go for light tops with up stands and then have a feature surface in a different material - perhaps a rounded wooden block at the end of a unit as a feature. Comments (10)Yes Compac offer Glace (matte), Polished, Concrete (Matte & slightly textured but only available in the Concrete collection), Ovo (Honed) & Pergamo (Brush & Hammered). The Ovo and Pergamo are special order and aren't available on all colours so this is something you would have to check if you see a colour you like. Caesarstone have 3 finish choices: Polished, Honed (Matte) and Viento (textured). Again you would have to check the chosen colour with Caesarstone to see if its available in the finish you like. Comments (71)Love your kitchen, you’ve done a great job, not only does the kitchen look good, it’s totally practical, drawers are the way forward, even if they are more expensive than cupboards. I’ve just redone a kitchen in a house we rent out, the old one was finally falling apart. I was going to go to Howdens and use the joiner etc we knew, but in the end we used a small local company, which cost us £300 more, but the quality of their interior cabinets and doors was so outstanding, plus they could do everything, including tiling, we went with them. 5 years agoI agree keep everything calm and simple to let that beautiful floor shine. A simple white quartz worktop would be perfect. I too wonder whether grey will have had its time soon, although it is a lovely neutral, but a nice off white would keep everything calm and free from being a “trend”. I love Little Greene Slaked Lime eggshell for the units (assuming you are having painted doors?). Beautiful paint that many kitchen makers use and there are some gorgeous colours.
Both these kitchen are painted in Slaked Lime.
