Don't be tempted to go white as it'll look too cold but something like Dulux Jasmine White or Farrow & Ball White Tie have some warmth. Avoid cool colours - blue, green or grey. You could try a light reflective paint - Dulux Light & Space paint in morning Light or Frosted Dawn, some people swear by them as they have light reflective particles that bounce light. Then get as many pale reflective surfaces in there as you can to bounce light around - mirrors, flooring, furniture. If you fancy wallpaper go for pale ones with pearlescent inks - Laura Ashley do plenty with shiny inks and usually have some sort of sale on. Make sure you don't have any heavy window dressings blocking any light....See MoreURGENT white & navy paint names needed for north facing room
Comments (43)Hi Tani. Mmmm. Mixing colours by hand can be tricky in large quantities which is why I suggested taking a small sample of your existing paint first and and seeing how other colours change it. For sampling you can use any acrylic paint (acrylic has similar properties to emulsion) as you’re just trying to identify which colour you need for mixing, could be other tester pots, kids acrylic paints, artists acrylics etc. but when doing the final mix I would use the same brand and finish paint. In theory (and from memory) to make a dark navy blue lighter and warmer you’d need more of a dirty peach colour then add this to the navy at approx 1 part peach to 10 navy then add more if needed. All a matter of trying and testing. Having said all this it may be possible to sell the paint you have now (after all navy is popular atm) and get another colour....See MoreDulux paint colour to make a dark North facing room seem bright/cozy
Comments (6)Hi Kate, You could just embrace the dark side! Some battles are not worth fighting. We have a north facing living room too. One wall is almost entirely glass, but it's still the darkest room in the house. It had a very gloomy feel when we moved in a few years ago and we would have to put the lights on during the day even though it was a bright off white colour, but I've since painted it a dark slate grey. Now it looks great. It has a very cosy feel. I've brightened it up with pops of colour, lighting and mirrors. So sometimes I think its okay to accept that its never going to be a bright room and just add lots of artificial lighting to brighten it up. It also gives you the excuse to try out a deep rich colours which you might never have considered before!...See MoreTeal in a north facing room
Comments (1)Hi Kathy, teal sofas will look fabulous in a North facing room scheme, and I agree that the wall colour needs to be a lighter shade rather than an intense colour. I think you should consider warmer colours without any grey undertones. I use Neptune's Timber paint pallet in a number of my schemes, as these are the most neutral tones with a red base that’s warm and will go beautifully with teal. If you like tones of pink, then try Lick's (White 06) chalk white with a touch of pink, this would look beautiful with your teal sofas, accessorised with pink and natural cushions and throws. Good luck! Louise...See MoreRibena Drinker
