I want to paint my stone fireplace....
I'm thinking about painting the fireplace a lighter colour (or am I crazy?) - we're about to get the sitting room decorated and most of the paint samples I've bought just look yuk with the colour of the stone and the sofa. Has anyone used Stonelux products? Or can suggest another product ? Thank you. its covered up to stop kittens climbing up chimney! Photos below.

Comments (36)Paint it white. Start with watered down chalk paint, and build it up until you're happy with the depth of white. If you're really uncertain, leave it a day or two between coats so you can keep an eye on it when it's dry. It's only a small area, so it won't take long to paint, or scrub it off if you went too far! I'd also put a wooden shelf/mantleshelf along the top, in an aged oak or pine, which would look lovely with the blue walls (judging by the tester marks in your photo!), or black/grey to coordinate with any furniture pieces. Personally I think TVs have got so big that they demand central positioning and if there is a fireplace there they get awkwardly stuck in a corner. Also the fireplace is often redundant in modernized houses with other sources of heating. Comments (21)This kitchen was painted in Mylands Soho House. Looks much greyer on their website (and/or on my screen). Pretty though. I'd probably paint the wall opposite the fireplace a different colour. If the doors were more towards the centre of the wall, I think it would look better if you made that short wall a feature wall. 5 years agoAgree, the fireplace goes really well with the carpet. If you tone down the pine and darken the wall, it'll look great.
