As you can see it's a work in progress ^_^* On the left part there is a shoe closet with a mirrored door. What I have in mind is something like this in the attached picture but for a seat, not a table. As you can see, the top part can serve as a place to leave keys, post, etc. and the whole thing would rest on the floor so the "seat mechanism" would be in the middle-upper part and when opened, the weight would be distributed among the legs of the chair and the main part so no need for heavy bolting. Although I don't have a problem with that either if there would be a flip-up seat with no floor support integrated in the "closet" part. And by the way this thing is precisely 15cm deep so it would totally fit in my plans :-) Anybody any idea? Have a great day!

Dear Wombatchild The two double ovens are on that back wall. The distance from them to the end of the island is 2.6 mtrs. The bank of units is mirror imaged from the centre of the ovens and that means there are two slim pull out larder cupboards on that wall. That 2.6m means that they can be pulled out and it is still no problem for traffic to be flowing past. My hob is on the island itself and the extractor comes up through the granite when in use. That far end of the island is great for taking things out of the oven and checking on food ...... turning potatoes over etc... To the left of that bank of units is a door to my boot room so I need walk way space there. This thread is quite old now and I may be repeating something I typed earlier but I love my kitchen ( think it is about six years since I had it out in) ..... The only things I would have done differently would have been not to have stainless steel sinks as they are a devil to keep looking nice! And I would like more contemporary pendant lights over the island instead of those chrome chandeliers - can change them but still working on husband on that point!!!! X

I guess it depends how often you use the garden… In the UK (with our delightful weather!!) I know my main entry to the kitchen will be via the main entrance not the garden! We are actually building a similar sized extension at the moment on our terraced house and we have opted to put the lounging area at the rear - and our kitchen designer had a different idea too! We chose to ignore them as we like to think that when we entertain we can use the garden and move the sofa around and make the indoor outdoor space very sociable. Also it means that the children have better access to the garden from the sofa and aren't running under your feet in the kitchen if they want to go outside (this was important to us as we have a toddler and one on the way, so we wanted to avoid hot water, hobs and skipping toddlers!). It is such a minefield, I feel your pain!!

I wouldn’t be able to watch the tv from there, even with my glasses! It looks a long way from the sofa. I would move the tv to the wall on the right of the patio doors, possibly mounted on an extending arm so you can angle it to suit the viewers. Do t have it too high. The sofa can be turned 90 degrees to face that wall. The dining table can then go in the nook. You might need to move / remove the blue chairs.
